These days, walking through the plot of La Tejera, its enclave and its qualities continue to amaze us. It is a strategic enclave that has resulted in the survival of this pre-phylloxera vineyard, planted around 1900. This is the origin of Unanimos Finca La Tejera wine, a production comprised of fewer than 2,000 bottles per year. Perhaps this is too radical a question, but it is very much to be taken into account in this day and age. “Union, analogy or conformity with which some things are linked or correspond to each other.” This is how the RAE (Real Academia Española) defines the concept of pairing. It’s already the spring of 2022, the beginning of April. Temperatures are on the rise and the vegetative cycle of plants sees them come to life. This spells the time for planting in the vineyard. Snow on the vineyard. How does it affect us?

The saying goes “year of snow, year of good things”, although with this crazy weather who knows. On the Three Kings’ Day, January 6th, we woke up with a beautiful snowfall in our vineyards in the Ribera del Duero Burgalesa. The previous year the snow was seen a few days later (on January 9th with the already famous Filomena), although the temperatures at the beginning of the year were more regular than those of 2022. The Old Harvesting Practices, in the Ribera del Duero Burgalesa

Formerly, in the Ribera del Duero harvest, relatives and friends were gathered together to collect the grapes, or alternatively, people from nearby towns were hired. The harvest work began on the same day throughout the whole town, at the moment when the town hall gave the green light. With mule or ox carts and amidst the revelry of the songs from the groups, they walked towards the vineyard, garillo in hand. In the winter months we work to improve the fertility of our soils with organic matter, since we are believers in organic and regenerative agriculture for all the different vineyard plots. In Tres Piedras we continue to fertilize as before in our historic Fuentecén vineyards, in the Ribera del Duero Burgalesa. We bury the manure from sheep, cows and horses from organic farms in the center of the vineyard rows. These are the most intense days of the year. Everything operates at the highest level and at maximum speed. Our legs and hands do not stop. Neither does the mind. The vineyard has spoken and expressed itself. During the harvest it shows us what it has been capable of producing this year. It gives us everything it has. Half of Spain is on vacation. Everything, or practically everything, comes to a standstill in July and August in our country, except for the vineyard. These months are especially important for the vegetative growth of the vine and we must attend to it in order to obtain the highest quality in the next 2021 harvest.
