In order to support the body during the GAPS die off period, it is important to gently detox to help eliminate toxins and promote healing. When going through the introduction stage of the GAPS diet, die off symptoms such as diarrhea, fatigue, nausea and skin flare ups are part of the healing process. Gently detoxing can help with these symptoms whilst continuing to aid healing. How to Gently Detox With my son, who is ten, I have found a number of ways to support his body gently so not to over-burden him. It is important that he is supported emotionally as well as physically whilst his body is ..read more

Kitchen Alchemy: the act of taking simple foods and transforming them into nourishing, tasty delights. GAPS foods are simple: meat, vegetables, fermented foods. The food is prepared simply, in the early stages both meat and vegetables are simmered in stock . In the past month I have eaten soup multiple times a day. I don’t mind the soup, it’s tasty and I know it is deeply healing, but still an alternative would be mind blowing! Kitchen Alchemy: Russian Custard Russian Custard could be the greatest thing I have ever made in my kitchen. It has two ingredients – egg yolk and raw honey, takes less ..read more

We are entering are third week of the GAPS introduction diet, tentatively moving from Stage one to two with a the aim to get to Stage three in the next few days. We have eaten all the soup! So much soup – breakfast, lunch, dinner and every snack in between. I make a fresh batch stock daily, this stock is the basis of everything we eat. The stocky / soup diet is working. There has been a huge amount of healing happening. My son has literally been shredding his skin. The rough and flaky eczema ridden skin that has plagued him for so long has started to flake away revealing soft, beautiful ‘norma ..read more

Meat Stock: the bedrock of healing
Purposefully at Home

In the GAPS diet, meat stock is the bedrock of healing. Whether following the Introduction or Full GAPS Protocol, Dr. Natasha recommends you consume meat stock for an average of one year. Meat stock contains high levels of collagen, gelatin, and amino acids that play a role in your ability to heal yourself.  Meat stock is the glue that seals up the intestinal lining to promote healing. It is so powerful that it can decapitate overgrown yeast tendrils, or yeasts that have overgrown to the point of growing ‘arms’ that break through your intestinal wall and into your body cavity. Structured Word Inquiry

Structured Word Inquiry (SWI) is a scientific investigation of words. I use structured word inquiry to teach my children reading and spelling. I have found that traditional phonics instruction only takes kids so far. When your child has mastered c/a/t where do you next? How do explain the spelling of <certain> why isn’t it *surtin? There aren’t exceptions in the English language – all the ‘weird’ spellings can be explained, you just need to know how. The purpose of English words is to show meaning, not pronunciation. Structured Word Inquiry allows the learner to see the meaning connectio ..read more

GAPS Chicken, coconut and cauliflower curry
Purposefully at Home

One of the biggest problems I have as a home educating parent is lack of time. I could always do with a few extra hours in the day to get everything done and have time to relax. One way I ‘make’ time is to pre-cook most of the meals. This GAPS chicken, coconut and cauliflower curry can be made ahead of meal time as it can be both frozen and re-heated or stored in the fridge for a couple of days. I am an early riser, I like the peace and quiet to collect my thoughts and plan my day before it happens. I find cooking relaxing and enjoyable so I do a lot of cooking at 6.00am. I like meals that can ..read more

Everything about the experience is a sensory experience: mixing the batter, licking the spoon, the smell when they’re cooking, the taste! My kids go wild for these GAPS fudgy chocolate cookies.
