Can you believe it’s been 2 and a half years since I decided to take a gap year? The Soul Sabbatical started as a little experiment, something to bridge the gap from nothing to my next chapter. Somehow it became a way of life. This freedom to be anyone and do anything has spawned so much happiness and growth for a girl that was feeling seriously stuck. I’ve been in a period of rest and reflection. My body craved some stillness and my brain was busy thinking about where I’ve been and where I want to go.
A little test trip to Taos is how it technically started, but the Soul Sabbatical truly bega ..read more

Sometimes you find something that completely changes the way you see yourself, the world, and what you thought was possible. Fandom is a crazy thing. I can’t imagine there are many people in this world who haven’t experienced love at first sight with some sort of art- be it a song, film, show, painting, sculpture, or even delicious dish. Art has a way of moving people, and creating passionate lifelong fans. I think it is a relatively unique experience for lightning to strike twice, twenty years apart. 6 months into this adventure, I have a lot to tell you. I have royally screwed up, everything has worked out perfectly, miraculous detours have taken me to uncharted territory, random strangers have completely changed my life, and the world is a bigger, brighter, more beautiful place. I returned to Nashville after an extended holiday in Austin ready to pack up my life and take off on an open-ended adventure. I was starting the process in early February, and was fully moved out and ready to roll the first week of March ..read more

I almost kicked my Rothy’s into the bay taking my first jumping photo after the broken toe debacle. I wish I could tell you how hard I laughed when I landed barefoot and frantically searched around for my missing shoes. Luckily the sneakers I bought in Seattle were in the car, so I was able to take another crack at a jumping photo in front of the Golden Gate Bridge. The shoes were only in there because they had been making me miserable the day before and I had to rip them off and throw them in the backseat by the end of the day.
I’ve been looking for several years for white sneaker tha ..read more

I have to make a point to reflect on my life and experiences. I put my head down and do my work, I lift it up and chase adventure, beauty, and fun with equal determination. When I lay in bed at night, I spend far more time thinking ahead than I do about what’s already happened. I’m nostalgic by nature, but I’m a restless wanderer obsessed with what comes next and that usually wins. There is only so much data a person can process in a day, and sometimes you need to carve out some time to really appreciate what you’ve seen and done with your life instead of obsessing about what comes next.
