“Christus Vincit” is a traditional Gregorian chant associated with the Roman Catholic liturgy. The chant is used at the end of the Church’s liturgical year on the Feast of Christ the King. The text, “Christus Vincit, Christus Regnat, Christus Imperat,” translates from Latin to “Christ conquers, Christ reigns, Christ commands.” Bédard uses the chant as the basis for a set of theme and variations, including a trumpet fanfare and French inspired toccata! I used the Hauptwerk sample set of Caen by Sonus Paradisi for this recording.

It’s with great delight that I’m sharing this organ and piano recital with you from the parish of St Agnes’ Glen Huntly. My association with this church stems back to Rev Dr Peter Richards who was at St John’s Corowa until the start of this year and has relocated to St Agnes’. I will be back at Corowa for lessons and carols for the 4th year in a row! That will be published on the channel in due course. I thank and congratulate Thomas Summerfield (@ThomasSummerfield) for his contributions to this concert and superb playing. Lastly I’d like to thank David Charles Turner (@DCTOnline) for spendin ..read more

Advent is just around the corner so I’ve decided to help you with some great music by Phil Lehenbauer. “Rejoice! Rejoice!” is a piece for organ based on the Advent hymn, Veni Veni Emmanuel. Phil has compiled his Advent and Christmas music across three volumes and this appears in volume two. I hope to be able to record more from these collections as they are well suited as preludes or postludes for the upcoming festive season. Link to the score is available for instant download below.

Yesterday I attended my friend Callum’s graduating organ recital. “After four years of arduous practice it’s time for you to come to my graduating recital at Verbrugghen Hall. Hear me tear through some raucously religious tunes.” He played superbly! Although I was not permitted to take any footage, you’ve seen his playing many times on the channel. Here’s what he played:
J.S. Bach: Prelude in E flat major BWV 552i
Max Reger: Intermezzo from Sonata in F sharp minor, Op. 33
Nicolas de Grigny – Pange Lingua “Hymne II”:
– Pange Lingua en taille à 4
– Fugue à 5

From the “Manuals only music for Christmas” book: Roberto Fresia is organist at the Cathedral of Cunco (Piedmont, Italy), where teaches at Diocesan Institute of Sacred Music. ‘Bethlehem’ is the meeting place for shepherds and for every believer (theme A) with baby Jesus in a stable. The light of the child heartens them (theme B). The shepherds return (theme A). The style recalls the classic Italian pastoral. Roberto’s piece was adjudged to be, “A pastorale with some attractive individual touches (eg. the melody of the opening few bars)”. I used the Alessandria sample set by Piotr Grabowski fo ..read more

I’ve used @AubreyTucker’s jazzy arrangement of the Christmas Carol ‘It Came Upon The Midnight Clear’ as my demo for the newly released Organteq 2 by Moddart. Organteq is virtual organ software that offers over 4,000 pipes inspired by historic organ builders, featuring 68 stops that can be assigned across three manuals and pedals. It utilises physical modelling for sound synthesis, resulting in a small 30 MB file size. The new version provides alternative touch-compatible console views which I appreciated very much. For this recording I used the Romantic ‘Abbey’ model to show off the quieter s ..read more
