The Patriots are the reigning state runner-up in 6A and ranked No. 2 in Florida in that classification. They are the No. 1 seed in their region. Pace hammered Tate 16-0 in three innings last Thursday to win a district crown for the fourth year in a row.
The Royals won their fourth consecutive district crown as well this past week, doing it in dramatic fashion as they rallied for a 7-6 win over rival Northview. The Royals, a No. 2 seed in the 1A tournament, won a state title in 2022 and were in the final four a year ago.

The Argos tied the game in the top of the seventh but gave up the winning run in the eighth.
UWF is 36-16 and must wait until Monday to find out if it makes the NCAA Division II tournament.
Chelsea Dumas scored on a passed ball in the sixth to tie the game after driving in a run earlier in the inning.
The Argos trailed 5-2 after three and were down 7-4 heading into the sixth.
Emma Brice finished with four hits to lead UWF. Erin Moon, Madelyn Vasquez, Hannah Harper and Dumas tallied two hits apiece.

Revenge turned out to be sweet for the Royals as they broke a tight game open in the fifth inning, scoring all of their runs on their way to a 5-0 victory.
With the final out recorded — Landon Golden put the finishing touch on his complete-game effort with a strikeout — the celebration got rolling on the program’s first district championship since 2019.
Players on the field jumped up and down. The rest of the team spilled out of the dugout. This meant a lot, and the smiles on the faces of the Royals told you as much.

Florida last week asked an appeals court to issue a stay of a district judge’s ruling that rejected a 2020 decision by the federal government to shift permitting authority to the state. The stay request — backed late Thursday by major business groups and companies — argued that the ruling has created permitting “chaos” and should be put on hold while an appeal plays out.
