Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has labelled Lance Stroll’s Chinese Grand Prix penalty “very harsh.” As the field bunched up for the safety car restart at the turn 14 hairpin, Stroll hit the back of Daniel Ricciardo’s Alpha Tauri causing the Australian to retire from the race with diffuser damage. His fellow countrymen Oscar Piastri was also caught up in the incident. He sustained damage but hobbled on to finish in eighth place. Credit: Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo’s Chinese GP was looking optimistic, in P9, at what looked like a competitive pace, until disaster struck in the safety car restart. Heading into turn 14, Lance Stroll hit the back of Ricciardo, giving the RB substantial floor damage and ending Daniel’s race. Immediately, Lance’s radio claimed “he (Daniel) braked early” denying blame for the situation. As a result, Lance received a 10-second penalty for causing the collision, giving him responsibility for the incident. We were treated to our second qualifying session of the weekend on Saturday as the cars took to the track to decide the grid. Lewis Hamilton had been a standout performer in the Sprint Race getting a much needed podium place. However, a mistake at the Turn 14 hairpin cost Hamilton as he broke a little too late. The clash, which occurred in the final laps of the race, led to Alonso retiring after he was forced to pit due to a puncture.
