Airbus has selected former JetBlue CEO, Robin Hayes, to head up its operations in North America following the retirement of Airbus Chairman and Chief Executive Jeffrey Knittel on June 3, 2024.
Robin Hayes was previously JetBlue’s CEO, where he served for nine years. Photo: Airbus
Hayes will lead the commercial aircraft business, and will have responsibility for coordination among the company’s helicopters, space and defense businesses in North America, and will report to Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury.

Airframe OEM , Boeing, has posted a US$355million net loss in its first quarter results, as the manufacturer is beset by ongoing investigations and a slow in production of its 737 MAX series, after a plug door blew open on Alaska Airlines’ flight in January.
Whilst the loss was not as steep as 2023 – here, Boeing posted a $425million net loss – its CEO, Dave Calhoun, said this year’s first quarter report reflected “the immediate actions we’ve taken to slow down 737 production to drive improvements in quality.”

North America’s largest seaplane operator, Harbour Air, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with electric engine manufacturer, magniX for 50 of its magni650 electric engines.
magniX’s electric propulsion units (EPUs) will be used to electrify Harbour Air’s fleet, starting with its De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver in 2026.

Embraer’s Q1 2024 results show strong growth for the regional jet manufacturer, with an overall backlog of US$21.1 billion – the highest level in the past seven years, up $2.4billion or 13%, from Q4 2023.
The biggest increase within this backlog increase can be attributed to its Commercial Aviation division, who posted a US$11.1 billion backlog, a jump of $2.3 billion from Q4 2023 – a rise of 26%.

Icelandic low-fare airline, PLAY, has announced it will run a limited amount of flights between Cardiff Airport, Wales, and Iceland’s Keflavik Airport. The flights will run between 10 October to 20 November 2024.
The flights will operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, for the six week period to coincide with school holidays at the end of October. Flights will then be adjusted to Thursdays and Sundays during the initial week, and then Tuesdays to Wednesdays.
In January, PLAY announced a self-bookable stopover option in Iceland on transatlantic routes to North America.

Frontier Airlines has signed a five-year contract with Lufthansa Technik, under which the MRO company will provide base maintenance services to the low-fare carrier’s A320 family fleet. As a result of the agreement, some 300 aircraft slots covering two lines at Lufthansa Technik’s Puerto Rico facility are scheduled for Frontier aircraft over the term of the contract.
