A detailed programme for the 12th edition of Liverpool Biennial has been released ahead of its opening on June 10, 2023. Titled uMoya: The Sacred Return of Lost Things, the art festival is curated by Khanyisile Mbongwa, along with the Liverpool Biennial team and director, Dr Samantha Lackey. In the isiZulu language, ‘uMoya’ means spirit, breath, air, climate and wind. This theme will offer a platform to explore the history and temperament of the city of Liverpool, serving as a call for ancestral and indigenous forms of knowledge, wisdom and healing.

ART X Collective has announced an open call for emerging African artists to submit applications for Access ART X Prize 2022/23.

The Access ART X Prize presents multiple opportunities to early-career artists from Africa and the diaspora, including funding, mentorship, project development, cultural exchange, exhibition and a residency, which they can leverage for more growth and success in their careers.

As Dr. Omar Kholeif wrote in the announcement for this year’s edition of the 1-54 Forum, “It is unfathomable to imagine that only 10 years ago such a continuing event [the 1-54 Art Fair] did not exist in Britain.” Also, for us at TSA, it is unbelievable that ten years have passed since the art fair began. It seems like only yesterday. We remember our first time publishing about 1-54 in 2015 when TSA started as a blog. We featured artists from Nigeria and the Nigerian diaspora in the third edition.

In the summer exhibition ‘Globalisto: A Philosophy in Flux’, currently showing at the Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain de Saint-Étienne Métropole in France, the curator, Mo Laudi (also known by his South African name of Ntshepe Tsekere Bopape), proposes the pan-African idealogy as a new vision for a disillusioned world. It is not the first exhibition aiming to nudge global thinking toward African knowledge systems and pan-African ideals of collectiveness and togetherness.
