Recently we had the pleasure of hosting a couple of students on work experience. Now, everyone has talents, abilities and intelligences, however often these just aren’t what’s desired from our current education system. So, while our work experience students got stuck into the world of chocolate, coffee and ice cream, I also wanted to know what they were interested in, and where they thought their future plans lay.
As a result of this, it turned out that William was keen to get into performing arts and media. So I set a very broad brief to put together a short real showing some of the products ..read more

As we mark the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day operations of June 1944, which signalled the beginning of the end of the Second World, we look at the small, but important part which chocolate played during this time.

As April’s eternal wind and rain finally abated and the long awaited spring sunshine tentatively peered round the corner of a cloud before making a full appearance almost in time for the early May Bank Holiday weekend, the Chocolate Fayre team gave our Secret Garden its spring clean, while also adding lots of greenery and colour with a plethora of pots and planters filled with all manner of flowering, climbing and hanging plants. As a result, it’s really become THE place to while away some time in it’s secluded sun trap setting, amongst the ancient walls and contrasting young plants, with an i ..read more

4 years ago, it all began to get very serious. we closed our shop and re-opened to online orders and phone orders only, and Barnard Castle emptied of cars, with only a handful of businesses able to still operate.
Terms like social distancing, home-schooling furlough and working from home became part of everyday language, and we queued for toilet paper and pasta supplies, clapped on a Thursday and wished everyone well in emails. Zoom became the way to socialise for those who could use it. We got to know our neighbours and helped make sure that our emergency services and key workers were ..read more

Following the popularity of our Hill Sixty coffee beans and grinds, we’re really pleased to announce that our refreshing range of Hill Sixty loose leaf teas are now available for you to brew and enjoy at home now too. We’ve perhaps become used to the ease and convenience of the tea bag. However, made well, the extra couple of minutes needed to brew a pot of loose leaf tea is therapeutic, setting you up first thing in the morning, or relaxing and rejuvenating you during the day. If you’re new to loose leaf tea, don’t worry – it’s very easy to produce a delicious brew, once you get into the rout ..read more

As the cold, grey weather and darker evenings of January become a distant memory, we look forward with hope and optimism to warmer days, happy occasions and celebrations. Here at Chocolate Fayre, the shop is decked out in reds, pinks and whites, as we approach St Valentine’s Day on 14th February.
