Hey gang.... Just a couple random things.... In an effort to slowly keep organizing some things, I moved the Backpacking Gear category out from the Glacier Park category and put it in the Non-Park Specific category, in case you are looking for it. That just felt more appropriate. Yell if you can think of any others that should really be shuffled around... Also, in the ever popular world of bots, I am keeping one eye on the Facebook bot that seems to be sending an army of threads our way at the moment. So far, I'm not really noticing much in the way of performance issues, so I'm letting it go ..read more

Generally less so. The parking is for the trailhead or an occasional visitor to customs. It is a bit off the beaten tourist path and there aren’t any drive by attractions. The lot can get pretty full but I’ve never had a problem parking there in early afternoon. Statistics: Posted by orin — Mon May 06, 2024 6:28 am ..read more

What's the typical parking situation for the lot at Belly River TH? Is it like other spots in that you need to get there before 8am to get a spot or less so? Thanks! Statistics: Posted by samsonwilliams — Mon May 06, 2024 2:58 am ..read more

A long time ago I spent several months in Avignon and explored the Marseille, Avignon, Nime triangle. If you train in and explore locally, Nimes, Arles, and Avignon have relatively compact city centers that are fun to explore on foot. Avignon has the Palais des Papes which housed Catholic popes during the Great Schism in the 1300s. Arles and Nimes have Roman ruins and theaters and arenas. If you rent a car you could visit the Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct near Nimes or the Camargue wetlands (birds, marsh, Lipizaner white horses) between Arles and the coast at Stes Maries de la Mer (beaches) or A ..read more

Sorry for the eye chart - working on some better ways to display (interactively). The walkin may not be 100% accurate for the 3 campgrounds I mentioned with advanced reservations being possible for all sites, but the error would be the total quantity, not whether walkin was available or not. Good luck tomorrow! It looks like the attachments are being reformatted (# of pixels changed), so hopefully these below are clearer: Statistics: Posted by zozeppelin — Wed May 01, 2024 3:02 am ..read more

Reminder: Tomorrow 8 'Mountain Time' (I would assume daylights savings time to be safe) reservations will be opened up to all! Attached are some utilization statistics (# of sites taken / # of sites available for advanced reservation). Overall 88% utilization. There are some interesting, albeit somewhat expected, trends. I'll post a detailed snapshot later of availability (since those that didn't win the lottery don't have visibility). glacier_early_access_2024.png Hi Paul - agree. A couple additional thoughts: 1) This is advanced availability only, so there should be additional walkin site ..read more

I will be travelling by train in the South of France in May, between Toulouse and the CInque Terre in Northern Italy, where I'm meeting up with some friends for a Group tour of Sicily. Looking for hints, suggestions, recommendations for places to stay, walks, hikes, or things to do or see. I have three nights in Toulouse, one in Genoa, and 3 in the Cinque Terre. Plus two more nights somewhere between Toulouse and Genoa, haven't decided yet where. I'm considering, Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, and Avignon. I'm planning a day trip from Toulouse to Carcassonne. Statistics: Posted by mattB ..read more

Yea. The site seems to generally have around 10-20 users (mostly guests) at any given time. And that amount seems ok for the current infrastructure. There’s recently been a new bot (new to this site anyway) “claudebot” that sends over 500 user request all over the site and just keeps pounding it over and over without any regard to the site. They did seem to be creeping up a bit more and more over the last couple weeks for sure. Those requests “should” be getting dropped now when they come in now, along with a few other bots for good measure. I’ll need to take a closer look at it once I get hom ..read more
