Hi everyone! Maggie Bergman here!
I graduated from Northland’s senior line in 2017, alongside a fabulous group of ladies and with wonderful teachers and mentors who inspired me to continue to pursue my passion for performing to this day! Even though I was only a part of the Northland family for two years, I still feel so incredibly grateful to have been welcomed with open arms as a stranger in a place where so many of my new teammates had been dancing together their whole lives. As scary as it was to leave behind what was familiar and make this change so late in the game, I knew that if ..read more

Our very own Alyssa Ulrick is featured in the “Beyond The Poms” spotlight! This is Alyssa’s rookie season with MVC and we couldn’t be more proud. Our dancers are so lucky to have Alyssa as their teacher. Her drive, dedication, and passion for them to always be better do not go unnoticed. Here are a few words from Alyssa, as first seen on the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader Facebook Page:
“Hey Vikes fans! My name is Alyssa and this is my first year on the team as a Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader. Here is a little more about me and my life #BeyondThePoms!

Hello! My name is Lauren Retka.
I am a graduate of Northland’s 2019 Senior Line.
Although it has been a while since my time at Northland, it will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I started dancing at Northland at the age of 10. Upon my arrival, I was greeted with warm smiles and open arms, something I continue to get to this day. The Northland staff shares the passion for dance with many young dancers and teaches important life lessons that have gotten me where I am today. The first words out of my mouth after walking through the front door were, “I wish I had come here sooner ..read more

It’s normal when starting nearly anything new to feel like the ‘odd man out’ or to have temporary doubts and feel nervous and anxious about something you were looking forward to. Even when something isn’t new – maybe you’ve done it for years – but now you are taking it up a notch, or are about to perform and have all eyes on you…it’s normal to feel jitters then, too.
We’ve compiled a list of common thoughts we hear expressed from time to time, and give you some advice to help you through.
Tips to combat those jittery new class thoughts:
“I have no idea what I’m doing and I just know they ..read more

Introducing your child to a variety of activities when they are young is a great way to foster a love of learning and creativity and to discover where their interests are. While there are no shortages of activities to choose from, there are so many positive benefits to be gained by introducing your child to dance at a young age. And while we may be just a tad biased toward the love of dance over other activities, the following benefits for young children in recreational dance are solid!
While your young dancer is:
Making new friends
Gaining confidence in their physical and soci ..read more

We’re both honored and extremely blessed with the opportunity to play a role in the lives of so many dancers. Some dancers we get to know only for a short time and with others we have the opportunity to be part of their lives year after year. No matter the length of time, this is an honor we cherish. And no matter if a student has danced with us as a recreational student or as a competitive dancer, we absolutely love when we can keep in touch and celebrate with them as they move through life.
We wanted to be able to share the sentiments of our dancers with you, in their own words. We ..read more

Start by reflecting and identifying what is most important to you
Think about the past year and what brought you joy, what motivated you, what gave you a sense of belonging and pride that you’d like to achieve more of?
Maybe it was:
Taking classes at a workshop that introduced you to a new style you love.
Mastering a combination you hadn’t been able to do well before
Getting the grades you worked for at school
Making great new friends
Knowing the encouragement you gave to someone else made a difference for them
Being chosen for a small group you worked hard to audition for
What were challen ..read more
