How long do f/t rats keep in the freezer? I assume they are like anything else and can get freezer burn. We are having a dreadful time finding a reputable feeder source near the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area. We ran out of feeders and the ones I ordered from the vendor we got them from originally at Repticon haven't shipped yet. It's been 7 days since Lemondrop ate last. As a last resort we went to Petco, but they only have the f/t rats sized by small, medium, large. Even the smallest one in the bag I think is too big for her - it's about 60g and what we had been feeding her were 19-29g. I d ..read more

My favorite Snake Discovery videos are the ones when they take their animals to the vet. They help raise awareness of issues that can arise with our pets and how to treat them. In this video, they have a bearded dragon that needs to have its foot amputated and a leopard gecko with mysterious swelling. We had a member of the forum post about a mysterious swelling just this week. It just goes to show you these issues are common enough that we should all be aware of how to deal with them. So, without further ado ..read more

41 ‘apex predators’ — that eat venomous snakes — released in north Florida. Here’s why.
Olivia Lloyd
Thu, May 2, 2024 at 2:26 PM EDT·2 min read
Wildlife researchers trekked through the tall grass in north Florida, unbothered by the long, slithering “apex predator” species in their hands.
The researchers were at the Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve on April 30 to deposit 41 of those creatures back into nature.
They’re eastern indigo snakes, the longest snake species in the U.S., and they play “a vital role in the circle of life here,” according to James Bogan Jr., the di ..read more

Hello!
I would like to point out that this is a case where I have to take the poor thing to the vet, but I still have to make an appointment and the vet is very far away.
A little about my ballypthon:
Male.
1 year old.
Shy.
1. My poor Ballpython hasn't eaten for a month and a half.
2. He's developed RI which I'm trying to treat with eucalyptus oil sauna.
3. She is bloated. I tried bathing her and she has released some internal gas but she is still bloated [ like a balloon]
I'm going to take him to the vet very soon, but until then I don't want him to have any more problems. What can y ..read more

The humidity level in Lemondrop’s enclosure jumps up to around 80% when we put new substrate in. We’re using coconut chips. How do you get the humidity level back to a good range? I left the door open on her enclosure while my daughter had her out today. That helped some but then I worry about all the heat escaping. We struggle to get the right temps - high side is 89-90 and cool side is around 75.
And the humidity jumped back up once we closed the door again. I don’t want her to get scale rot ..read more

Good morning. It’s Tuesday. Today we’ll meet a creature that you might not want to encounter face-to-scaly-face.
Credit...Jeff Dragon
It’s a slithery, picky eater that craves crayfish — and isn’t much to look at.
“It’s drab and brownish-looking,” Jeff Dragon said. “It’s not going to stand out.”
He was talking about a queen snake.
Dragon, who studies snakes as a research scientist with the New Jersey Pinelands Commission, noticed a specimen last ..read more
