If you get caught speeding, driving without a seatbelt or running a red light in Queensland, you will now face a larger fine. Tougher penalties come into effect from July 1, 2022. Phone detection cameras were activated last year which also scan for occupants not wearing a seatbelt. The penalty has more than doubled for front seat passengers who are caught without a belt. Instead of a $413 fine and three demerit points, offenders will now be fined $1078 and four demerit points.
