I have been seeing this new letter writing book at various bookstores and was so pleased to meet the author at the annual Rosemount Writers’ Festival where I was delighted to purchase an autographed copy. Please Write: Finding Joy and Meaning in the Soulful Art of Handwritten Letters was written by Lynne M. Kolze and published in May 2023. The price tag is high for a hardcover by a first-time author, however the quality of the book binding, the paper and illustrations, as well as the amount of detail Kolze includes all work towards delivering value worth the price. Also, the Kindle version is ..read more

It’s never too early to make your plan for International Correspondence Writing Month (InCoWriMo). While I’m not looking for additional writing pals, I do love sending and receiving mail so I participate in this annual challenge. And as a Leap Year, 2024 will have 29 days instead of 28. The challenge is to send a piece of mail every day in February. Your list of recipients can be anyone. There’s an InCoWriMo website and a Facebook page where you can find addresses and post your own if you’d like. You don’t have to send to people in the program. You can send to whomever you want. I count my re ..read more

The Ukranian Soldier and Warship Stamp
Letters & Journals Blog

I have been wishing and hoping that this stamp would make it’s way to my collection ever since I first saw it sometime in 2022. It’s a Ukranian stamp (note the use of blue and yellow colors) supporting their service men and women in their fight to protect their homeland from Russia. Pictured here is a Ukranian soldier giving the finger the Russian warship. Wow! Just wow! The front of the postcard is a book and a typewriter with flowers and a cup of tea/coffee. I love this image so much that I won’t dare remove the stamps. For now this postcard is sitting on my desk and I admire it everyday ..read more

World Poetry Day

How will you celebrate World Poetry Day on March 21? Unesco started this holiday in 1999 “…with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard.” I started writing poems at age 10 (5th grade) and continued until college (early 20s) where I majored in English.  I remember frequently going to the B. Dalton bookstore (we lived 90 min away) in the 1970s and purchasing more than one Rod McKuen poetry book. Ha! No judging. In high school I fell in love with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s The Psalm of Life an ..read more

InCoWriMo Calendar

This is the calendar I plan to use for my InCoWriMo 2023 mail. I decided to write the outgoing mail names in the calendar spaces and the incoming mail (InCoWriMo only) in the lined area on the left. For a successful InCoWriMo experience, it helps to plan ahead. Get your supplies. Start your list of who you plan to write to. Topics to write about (books, recent outings, favorite things to do, something I learned recently, a photo with an explanation, fave movie or current tv show). Have a way to track incoming and outgoing mail.My first year I wouldn’t have had any names to enter in the Incomi ..read more

Winter Wonderland

We have had snow coming down for almost two days straight – big juice flakes! I feel like we’re living in a Winter Wonderland! However, the unfortunate news is that no mail was delivered on Tuesday, January 3 and it’s not looking good for today (Wednesday). I put outgoing postcards in the mailbox for pickup so I can determine if there has been mail delivery. As of 5:30 pm today we haven’t had mail delivered since last year (Saturday, December 31, 2022).       ..read more
