We just got a 2013 Ram 3500 DRW Cummins for towing our horse trailer with living quarters. We got it to replace a SRW Chevy that pulled the trailer great, but the trailer has way too much weight on the pin for the SRW. It is my wife's truck for horse stuff, but I just went on a 5 hour trip with her then back yesterday, and she is right it is a very rough ride. The bouncing from every road imperfection will wiggle you crazy. We are still getting use to the Ram and how different it is... 2013 3500 DRW Rough Ride towing Gooseneck ..read more

I recently purchased a used 30' travel trailer. I don't remember the extract gvwr but it's just under 9k.(I'll update once I confirm the number) I need to get new tires. Current size is 225/75/15 D. Rated tires . Is it worth while to upgrade to a E or even F rated tire for better performance/stability, maybe less blow outs?? It's NOT for increase load capacity, just better tires?? The manufacturer wasn't being to helpful if the wheels can handle the higher psi, but indirectly said they use... D to F rated tire advice ..read more

5th wheel/gooseneck towing setup

I bought a 5th wheel RV today. I've never pulled anything from the bed or setup a truck to do so. I could use a few pointers. Trailer specs: 5th wheel, 1270 lb hitch weight, 7534 UVW, 9995 GVWR, 29' 10" long. I'm not concerned about the weight. I believe from reading the specs that I'm inside of all the ratings for the truck and I used to pull a 40' bumper pull toyhauler with only a weight distribution hitch with no issues. Hitch: No real questions here. I intend on having a B&W Companion... 5th wheel/gooseneck towing setup ..read more

Hello, I have a 2006 2500 HD mega cab with Jake brake. Empty weight of the truck is 8200 pounds and with my 30 foot gooseneck the total weight is 13,580 pounds. I’ve gotten so many different answers from Google that I thought I would ask you all. what is the total amount of weight that I could put on my trailer and be able to tow. I’ve attached a picture of my weight ticket from the scale today ..read more

BLUF: With good upgrades, can our 07 5.9 mega4xdually safely haul 18,000 lbs... So we've got a very nice 07 3500 megacab 4xdually, 5.9/G56 with ~94000 miles - it runs perfectly and has been a spectacular and reliable tug boat for years. However, we now have his n hers Wrangler JKU 4-doors, and we want to haul both to the trails n stuff. Both Jeeps are built pretty big - hers is on 37s and weighs about 5500 lbs, and mine will be a bit bigger, so figure 6k lbs each, or 12k lbs total... heavy towing with '07 5.9 - check my brain ..read more

Hey all, TLDR version. 2500, 6.5’ bed, 4x4 and a rather small travel trailer (17-22’, sub 5k?) Do I really need all this weight distribution stuff? I’m a n00b here, don’t know much about bumper pull stuff. Back story, I’m probably nuts, but I’m considering getting a smaller bumper pull rv. 18-22’ seems the be the units we like best. Just wife and I, weekend getaways, but also some long distances. 7 hours to South Padre, 5 hours to Mom, 15 hours to Colorado river, 18 hours to in-laws... I have the rig in my signature and my wife and I are retiring soon and want to purchase either a 5er or bumper tow for longer trips (1-2 months at a time with NO boon docking). We've had bunkhouse bumper tows when our kids were younger and one 5er in the past and I want to get the most practical trailer out there staying under 30' and 10k gvw. All of these were towed during my 11 yr ownership of a CC LB '01 Dmax. I now have the CTD and with the short bed, single rear wheel rig, is a sub... 2nd gen 2500 QCSB trailer selection ..read more

I asked this in the 2g section but thought I may have some luck here (no replies there). The previous owner of my truck was a great hack when it came to wiring so here I am to ask questions. I am getting a trailer this week with brakes and my truck came with the wiring for them. I found the blue connector under the dash to plug the controller in to. My question is, does the light blue wire, in fact, go straight from the under dash harness straight to the 7 wire round plug at my... 2001 Trailer Brake Controller Wiring ..read more
