Hello fellow 4R's! I have a question or two - we plan on renting a travel trailer and have purchased sway bar/towing hitch. Question - how do we set up the electronic braking system? Is it easy? 2nd How do we really know how much everything weighs? Trailer + stuff in 4R + us!!

Hi everybody, newbie tower here.
warning: long post ahead! Skip to the bottom for a tldr
My girlfriend (who has had a decent amount of experience under her belt towing small horse trailers when she was younger— albeit with an f150..) and I will be taking to the road next year with a (relatively) small camper behind my 4Runner that we will be temporarily living from for the next couple of years ~travel nurse style~ while she completes her clinical rotations for med school. We have already...

Ok, friends...lets play "Would you tow it?" Getting technical here, but there are too many factors for me to calculate. Im hoping someone can help. We have a 2017 4Runner SR5 with the Dobinson IMS 3" Long Travel Heavy duty lift kit (C59-701v) front & rear. We also have PowerStop brakes and calipers front & rear. I'll be using the Fastway E2 sway control trunnion hitch (8,000lbs trailer weight rating, 800lbs tongue weight rating). SERIOUSLY looking to buy a 2022 Jayco Jay Feather Micro 171BH...

I’m looking to get a brake controller for a new camping trailer. I was thinking of the Curt Echo wireless but on a couple websites it appears to “not fit my vehicle”. I hadn’t heard this anywhere before. Anyone use this on a 23 or have something similar they like preferably wireless? Thanks ..read more

Hi! We just moved to the mountains and we have a 3000lb Kubota tractor that is in for service. We would like to get a trailer and pick it up ourselves, but I'm concerned about the safety of towing a tractor that weighs that much PLUS the weight of a trailer - most of the ones we're looking at are 1800ish lbs. We would be towing it about 35 miles in the mountains.
Do I need to get anything added to my 4Runner before attempting this, and is it even a good idea?
Thanks ..read more

I'm looking to get a 4runner tomorrow and trading in what I have now. What I have now on paper should be able to tow my camper but after one nerve-wracking trip, I want something better. Plus, a 4runner has been my dream car since I was a kid.
On paper the 4runner will work.
Trailer details:
~3100 lbs with everything except water and beer/food (went to a CAT scale and measured with our typical gear loaded in plus all awnings/propane tanks, etc installed)
11 gal water tank (~92 lbs)
12 ft...

Hello! We have a 2018 4Runner and a 2009 Jayco Feather 17' -- weighs about 3000 lbs empty.
I am looking at brake controllers.
The Curt 51180 Echo Mobile Electric Trailer Brake Controller looks very simple with just plugging it into the 7 pin connectors. Reviews complain that it is fragile, the app may malfunction and may even hinder charging the auxillary battery. Then with the "Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller - Dash Knob" that is mounted I cannot determine if it is an easy plug in...
