Took our Grand Design Imagine AIM 15RB for a 5 hour drive to camp. I have to say 60 mph is a drag for this speedster but also relaxing when you’re not jockeying for pole position. I do use the Eco mode Cruise Control where possible to keep my lead foot off the gas. Absolutely no sway at this speed with this trailer ..read more

Brake controller needing no screws

Hi, I have a 2023 limited ascent but it is leased. It has the factory towing package and the dealer installed the tow hitch before we took the car home. I am trying to find a brake controller that I do not need to drill into anything but can be put somewhere safely without moving around. Can the tekonsha p3 be stuck on by double sided command tape? Or if any other brake controller you know of that doesn't need any screws? We may keep the car but just incase don't want to mess with it. Will... Brake controller needing no screws ..read more

Tow Pro Elite - Flashing Blue Light - Problem?

I hope someone on the forum has seen this issue before. I installed the Subaru OEM Hitch last weekend (2021 Ascent Limited), and finally did the install of the Redarc Tow Pro Elite this past week. I hooked everything up and things looked good - however... I connected a 7-pin tester to my 7-pin plug on the hitch - image below. The "12v" light is on, indicating 12V power present. When I step on the brakes, the "LT" and "RT" lights illuminate... Tow Pro Elite - Flashing Blue Light - Problem ..read more

Twist locks for hitch area cover

Anyone have a part number for the twist fasteners in the OEM hitch package that replace the original push clips? They are no longer captive parts. So now that I've had a hitch installed, I'd like to get a couple of extras, knowing that the best way not to lose something is to have a spare one ready to go. I have a sinking feeling that they are not available separately. Thanks in advance ..read more

Competing brake controllers?

Replacing my totaled trailer with an identical model. The one I checked out today has a brake controller (looks like the Prodigy RF pictured below) on the tongue in-line with the 7-pin cable, and my Ascent has the Primus IQ brake controller plugged in under the driver dashboard. Would these play nice together or do I need to have the tongue-mounted controller removed before towing? (The in-car portion of the Prodigy RF unit is not available to me.) [ATTACH... Tongue Weight Calculator

I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but I found an online tongue weight calculator. Trailer Weight and Balance Equations and Calculator This calculator will determine the Weigh and Balance of a trailer or similar application. Units used are in, lbs or mm and Newton's perspective. At the bottom of the webpages, there are several weight and balance application example's. www.engineersedge.com You have to make some assumptions about distances, but it answered a question of mine about how much tongue weight would be reduced by adding a bike rack and bikes to the back of a Travel Trailer. I decided to upgrade my 2990 lb utility trailer to have brakes. There are several posts here that state Subaru requires brakes on anything > 1000 lbs. The utility trailer is only 800, but so is the the motorcycle on it....so the load is well north of 1000 lbs. For highway travel, it might not be absolutely necessary. But our summer home is up a steep hill, have to have braking downhill, the engine isn't enough. So I bought the parts to upgrade the axle to have electric braking... Dexter EZ Lube ..read more

Actual rear end sag with trailer:

Hey gang, was curious about approximately how much rear end drop/sag with 250lbs on the ball mount? TIA...PR... note: I have a FastWay adjustable aluminum ball mount which I unfortunately can not use. The Pin hole location does not allow the use of the anti-rattle pin inside the ball mount to be used. From what I can see in the Subaru OEM ball mount, the ball mount is right up against the receiver hole. The Fastway is further out. Now I have to choose another ball mount ..read more

Towing maintenance schedule

I understand that one needs to follow the severe duty maintenance schedule when towing, but interested in understanding what this means in practical terms given we don't tow all the time? We'll be towing a Casita travel trailer (17', 2500lbs dry, 3500+/- loaded) but that will only account for a portion of miles driven. I'll definitely err on the side of caution for the CVT and diffs, but wonder if folks just do 3K oil changes all the time if they tow at all? My engineer brain wants to... towing maintenance schedule ..read more

Towed this 2020 jay flight ultralight SLX 184bh Baja. Dry weight around 3500 lbs hitch weight 360 lbs. No issues and towed well. Towed from Central California to Pinecrest Lake. Not that far but didn’t want to for my first time. Here are a few pics. Really like the trailer ..read more
