Hi all, I have a cross-country move coming up, and am considering using my 2001 Outback (base model) to tow an 850 lb UHaul trailer. I expect that once loaded, the trailer gross weight should be somewhere around 1300 lbs, and the vehicle itself will be loaded with some cargo. Hi I am getting a boat next week. It's an 16' aluminum. Boat and engine weigh in at about 1100 lbs. Not sure about the trailer, but figure can't be more than a few hundred. So 1400 lbs with gear and a couple guys in the car, somewhere in the area of 1800 lbs total. I have a '23 Outback 2.4, so I know on paper I'm well within the limit. As season citizens, we have traded our 21 sp. bikes for e-bikes. We purchased a pricey Thule easy fold xt bike rack which fits either 1 1/4" or 2" hitches and ( 2) 65 lb. bikes. Our hitch is a factory dealer installed 1 1/4" hitch. I hopefully included photo's that show the hitch and the bike rack. Thule manual says the hitch pin hole must be (at least )1 1/2" from the hitch end. The factory hitch hole is 1 1/8" from the end ( short of the minimum ). Our bikes are 50 lb. each. I own a 2021 Subaru Outback Touring 2.5 which comes equipped with foldable crossbars that are integrated into the roof rails.
