I have had my 2011 Silverado LTZ 5.3 2wd since 2015 and the first modification I made way back then was installing drop shackles on the rear to level the truck. Later that year my Mom & Dad gave us their old 1995 Coachmen Catalina 5th wheel. It was a very small camper (25' ~ 5500lbs) and the truck handled it very well for the next 4 years. After a leak got out of hand that camper was put out of commission. Fast forward to April 2023 and we decided it was time to go back camping and we purchased the new JayFlight 267BHS. This unit is a good bit larger at 30' and ~ 6500lbs and I noticed jus ..read more

Anti sway hitch

Hello I just purchased a Jayco Jayflight slx210qb travel trailer. I downsized from a 42 foot fifth wheel to this 26 foot travel trailer. The fifth wheel gross weight was 16000 lbs and I pulled it very well with a 3500hd Silverado with a 6.6 Duramax engine. Would I need a weight distribution hitch or anti sway to pull a travel trailer that weighs about 25 percent of the fifth wheel using this pickup. I had no problems pulling it home but haven’t taken it out on a trip yet. Thanks ..read more

Remove preload tension when storing Recurve R3

Hi, I am new to this forum and a first time RV owner. After driving home with our Jayco Jayflight travel trailer I unhitched and put the R3 hitch in my garage for storage but did not remove the preload tension. I've been reading so much material for the RV that I did not read the manual for the R3 until today, 5 weeks later. I now see that I should remove the preload when storing the hitch. I wonder if 5 weeks storage with the preload tension has caused any wear that I should be concerned about. Also looking for advice as to removing the tension when backing up or when travelling on wet/slipp ..read more

Weight Distribution Set Up Questions

Hello I am getting ready to set up my weight distribution/anti sway hitch. Even though this is a first for me I have confidence that I have a solid grasp of the set up. My questions begin with all the instructions and tutorials I have researched all use trucks that seem to have empty cargo beds. I don't plan on overloading my truck bed but I will have a few hundred pounds back there. I plan to simulate the projected weight by placing 10 regular (8" x 8" x 16") concrete blocks (350lbs + -) in the bed. So when measuring the front/rear wheelwells do I just use the weighted truck measurements then ..read more

After having our Jayco Whitehawk 27RB for 5 years we finally upgraded from a Ram 1500 to a Ram 2500. The 1500 was a 2009 and over 200k miles. I decided on the 2500 as I wanted more stability and to open future possibilities of a 5th wheel down the road. Now that I have the 2500, I don't think I'll ever go back to towing with the 1500. Don't get me wrong, the old truck has plenty of power to get the job done. The bigger truck just handles the load better in every aspect. With the WDH, I measured the height of the ball on level ground on the old truck and adjusted it to be the same height on t ..read more

I’m towing at the max combined weight (25,000 lbs.). It is a gasser and do not want a diesel. I use mid grade gas when towing and regular around town. I tow from New York to Florida in November and back to New York in March only. Does anyone use premium when towing ..read more

I have questions: ReCurve R3

Just doing took a close look at the label at the top of my hitch. I'm a little concerned/confused. I'm reading 'max weight carrying' for tongue is 600 lb. I would assume that means max weight when NOT using the weight distribution bars. That max weight with WD is 1,500 lb. If this is correct, I should never use this hitch without the weight distribution in place? If this is the case, is it safe to use with the bars removed, just for backing in and positioning? I would never consider hauling without WD, no matter the ratings, but I do/have removed the bars when backing into my spot at home ..read more

Pros/cons of a 2022 Ram 2500 diesel

Got a 2001 Excursion diesel 7.3 powerstroke, pulls like a beast, but getting long in the tooth. After all it's 23 years old. Only 228,000 miles. I bought used at 29,000 miles. I'm looking at a 2022 ram 2500 Laramie diesel with 12,000 miles. Pretty well decked out. Should I fix stuff on the Excursion, or spring for newer technology and newer headaches? PaulB12 ..read more
