Switch to Demco EZ Latch coupler?

I'm thinking of switching out from the original Escape coupler on my 2022 21C to a Demco EZ latch coupler, going from the 2" ball to match the 2&5/16 ball I have on my cargo trailer. I see a lot of references to 50 degrees in the information about several types of A frame couplers. I see no info from Escape that the A Frame is 50 degrees. Anyone know if 50 degrees is correct for the Escape A frame? Anyone with any experience using a Demco EZ latch coupler? Also, any recommendations for a welding outfit in the Everett - North Seattle area to do the work? Thanks for your input ..read more

Has anyone tried or done the research on truck/trailer aero devices to improve towing MPG? Pics are for reference only. I have a buddy that pulls an enclosed car hauler, < 5,000 lbs total with ‘20 Suburban. Went from 7.5 to 11 mpg. We’re towing a 21C with a F250 diesel. Holding a steady 65 mph/1700 rpm, 9.2 mpg. https://www.icondirect.com/aeroshield-wind-deflector ..read more

What tires for 2017 Highlander?

We bought a 2017 Highlander about a year and a half ago. It came with Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires that were getting near the end of their life. We love the quiet ride of the Highlander and I feel like the tires may be a significant element to its great ride. I'm about ready to take our snows off and put regular tires back on so it's time to shop for new ones. Unfortunately, the Defender LTX M/S has been discontinued and the replacement (Defender LTX M/S2) does not come in the size for this car (245/60R18.) There is a similar tire just called "Defender 2", but internet searching seems to ..read more

LiFePo4 upgrade, TV alternator considerations

I have a 2022 Ram 1500 with the 3.0 Eco Diesel. I recently upgraded my camper, Escape 21C to a lithium battery. The battery is at the rear of the trailer. I have gotten conflicting advise on how to safely charge the battery while going down the road. One owner of a trailer identical to ours, that has LiFEPo4, said that lithium batteries appear as a dead short, and without a 12v DC-DC charger in the charging circuit of the 7 pin, I run the risk of burning out the alternator of the truck. The dealership told me it was actually a generator and the part is $2200.00 if I had to replace it. He advis ..read more

Today was awesome...my first time towing the new-to-us 2022 5.0. I tow with an F-150 3.5 Max tow package. My destination was a a truck stop with Cat scales. I've attached he weight ticket. I've weighed the truck previously. Comparing the empty truck to hitched, the scales showed 720lbs pin weight. And the front axle weight didn't change (3160lbs) with the trailer hitched. My route was almost 100 miles with most at 65mph. Highways and 15 miles of Interstate. The truck reported 14.0 mpg for the ride. I've read lots of posts where folks report towing mileage with their half-ton and 5.0, but I w ..read more

Setting up an Andersen WD hitch

I have an Escape 19 with an Andersen hitch. It was installed and used by my dad before he passed. I changed the height of the ball when I used it without the chains on my truck to move the trailer. Now I have his truck and I want to make sure it is set correctly. I have the manual which says to adjust the height so the front of the trailer is no more than 1 1/2 inches lower than the rear. That is a pretty tight tolerance and I wonder how that works if I load more gear in the truck or trailer that wasn’t there when I adjusted it. I don’t know if more or less water in the tanks, gear in the fron ..read more

F-150 Max Tow vs. Trailer Tow?

I have a chance to buy one of two 2023 F-150s both with 3.5 EB engine, 4WD, Supercab, both with integrated trailer brake. One has the Max Tow package, 3.55 axle (the one with the open recall) and a 400 watt inverter and one has Trailer Tow package with the 2000 watt inverter but with 3.31 axle. I am leaning towards the one with the 2000 Watt inverter and trailer tow for towing our E-21. What do you F-150 experts advise ..read more

Electronic sway control & WDH

Hello. Anticipating the arrival of our new 21C in June and was planning on going with the Andersen WDH (like it's light weight and relative simplicity). My tow vehicle is a Chevrolet Colorado. In looking over the documentation for the hitch, I see that they suggest disabling electronic sway control in the tow vehicle. This isn't really feasible in the Colorado, as per the manual you can switch it off but it will automatically turn itself back on when the truck hits 30mph...I'm sure I would be quite unpopular driving down the interstate at 25mph! Apparently, Blue Ox has the same recom ..read more
