Which AVRs support Tidal Atmos?

Hi there, Am looking to upgrade my reciever and want to get something that will play Tidal Atmos tracks. I'm aware many new recievers support Dolby Atmos from Blu Ray sources, but am not sure how it works with streaming Atmos from Tidal, as most only go so far as connecting via bluetooth rather than full wifi. Even my current Blu Node streamer only supports rwo channels and not atmos. Keen to hear from anyone that has had experience streaming Tidal Atmos tracks to their reciever. Thanks ..read more

Tidal Exclusive Mode Volume

Hello all, I'm listening through headphones using the Tidal app on my Dell laptop running Windows 11 Pro. I've got the 'Exclusive' Mode' ('with Exclusive Mode, Tidal has exclusive use of the audio device') switched on. The problem is, every time the track changes or I change the track manually, the volume level shoots up to something ridiculously high. I have to keep turning the volume down to where I want it. Apart from this being damn annoying, it's not good for my headphones or, rather more importantly, my hearing! Anyone know what's going on, here? Dave ..read more

Streaming audio to second room.

Hi Bit of a novice question here. I’m looking at extending the reach of my streaming capabilities to an additional room. My current stream source is Arcam’s Rplay, long discontinued but still offering reasonable sound quality, at least to these aging ears. I’ve recently switched from Spotify to Tidal’s hi fi tier with very satisfactory results. My chief concern is compatibility. I want to add the portability of a decent WiFi single speaker from reputable manufacturer such as Sonos or any others you’d care to suggest. I’ve assumed Bluetooth as a routine feature enabling listening on my travels ..read more

This article has information about Windows and Mac software, that can fully unfold MQA files, without requiring you to purchase MQA enabled hardware. Could be useful to anyone wanting to try Tidal. Audirvana Playback Software Now Unfolds MQA The recently-released Audirvana Plus 3 has become the first desktop music player for MacOS to include an integrated MQA Core decoder. To quote the press release, issued jointly by London-based MQA and Paris-based Audirvana, Audirvana's MQA Core decoder "enables the first origami 'unfold' and... www.stereophile.com ..read more

Qobuz App on PC not showing Chromecast speaker groups.

If I'm using the Qobuz App on a PC, it shows the individual Chromecast devices but it doesn't show any Chromecast soeakergroups I've created. I tried it on my Mini iPad as well and initially it was the same but after a while it did show the groups, they also show up in Tidal and Amazon Music so it is specific to Qobuz. I've had some other issues with Qobuz before which made me swap out a Nokia Beacon range extender / access point for a TP Link one which resolved it. If I was attached to the same Wifi network as as one of the Chromecast devices is attached to, I could see only that device and ..read more

Upgrade from EchoDot?

Sorry if this is an awfully naive question. I've been streaming Spotify Premium at it's highest res through a 3G EchoDot to my HiFi (Perreaux SM3 and PMF3150, Klipsch Chorus) for years. For a couple of reasons - the dodgy 3.5mm output and reading recent reviews of streamers - I'm considering a purchase of a WiiM Pro Plus. In the context I've described, am I going to realize a significant upgrade in sound quality? Thanks ..read more

Tidal giving you all the music and quality for £10.99

https://tidal.com/pricing I'm giving Tidal a go, free for a month and if it does sound better and I can find all the music I want to listen to, then I might ditch Spotify. With Tidal combining all their 24 bit content into 1 package, I can't see people sticking with Spotify, or even joining up, when it's the same price as Tidal and all of Spotify's music is at very average quality. If Spotify release a HIFI package, or turn all their music into 24 bit, then I think they stand a chance. If they stand still, they will surely lose out to Tidal ..read more

Yamaha Musiccast internet stations backup option

When the MCR NT670D internet radio is reconnected via wi-fi or cable, the station memory is reset and the collection must be rebuilt. It's not a tragedy, but I want to ask if there is a way to back up to a file or otherwise not lose that collection. With hundreds of laboriously found radios, it's not encouraging to do it again. Does anyone know of any way to address this? Thanks for the suggestions Peter ..read more

Does anybody use Plexamp? Better alternatives?

I was wondering if anyone uses or has used Plexamp? I'm in the process of recording a bunch of CDs to Flac and am looking for the best software for steaming? I've been using Plexamp and was actually quite impressed with the app so far. I've seen Roon also mentioned and will trail it ( and will need to see if price is worth it). I find local streaming apps are usually totally crap or a UI mess. Plexamp has it's flaws but does seem pretty nice so far. Which solutions are people using ..read more
