Lay leaders, professionals, philanthropists, mental health experts and service-users gathered at Jami’s newly reopened Head Room café in Golders Green, for a dialogue on Mental Health Support in the Community: Comparing British and Israeli Best Practices.

Jami is delighted to announce that Gemma Lyons has joined its board of trustees and Warren Taylor has been appointed vice chair.
Gemma was drawn to Jami because she believes mental health problems are severely under publicised and need more advocates. She explains: “I think many people are affected by mental illness and there needs to be more openness in talking about our mental health. Historically, mental health organisations don’t seem to get the same attention or funding as those with a focus on physical conditions.”

Jami celebrated the official reopening of our mental health café, Head Room in Golders Green, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Mayor of Barnet.
The Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet, Councillor Alison Moore, said: “During a period in which we are trying to move towards mental health acceptance and moving away from stigmatising mental illness, Head Room café’s offering is happening at a really important time, when the community is really ready to listen.”

Social prescribing is the term used to describe the act of connecting people to activities, groups and support that improve health and wellbeing. The 9th March is Social Prescribing Day, an annual celebration of social prescribing which recognises link workers, local community groups and regional and national organisations that support people’s health and wellbeing.

Between February and May 2023, all staff members and volunteers at Jami, the mental health service for the Jewish community, will be undergoing suicide prevention training. This is to ensure that everyone can play their part in working to reduce lives lost to suicide.

Head Room by Jami, the charity’s mental health café in Golders Green, has now fully reopened, following major expansion and a revamp.
