We might not be about to paddle out at Pipeline like in the iconic scene from Blue Crush, but we're still all about sizing up those waves, whether they're ankle-biters or big bombas.
Blue Crush (2002) - Lena, Eden & Anne Marie checking out Pipeline
We do this to collect information. It helps us to figure out where to sit in the line up, where to paddle out and gives us an insight into what our session might be like.
It can help reduce anxiety and fear by processing what we see.
However, I always say: 'Don't let your ego write cheques that your body can't pay for' - In oth ..read more

The leash, the tether that binds us, the umbilical cord of surfing. Hated by some longboarders, taken for granted by many.
Since 1971 for over 50 years we have been lucky enough to have a successful way to attach our surfboards to ourselves, what a joyous day we no longer have to swim after our boards. So we've all seen the beautiful line ups with longboarders gliding on point breaks with no leashes its super beautiful and inspiring but when should we take the leash off or should we ever take it off?
Its not usually seen with shorter boards, however a swathe of good long boarders swear by not ..read more

Remember those feelings when you started surfing? I don't know about you, but for me it was a concoction of fear, anxiety, and heaps of excitement. Even in waist-deep waters, those waves appeared colossal!
Now, as we embark on the journey of conquering bigger waves, those same emotions are right there with us. But here's the deal: the more we dive into it, we acclimatize, growing more resilient and advancing our skills.
It all hinges on your mental attitude and mindset and its something that every surfer, no matter ability feels.
One day, you'll find yourself about to drop into the largest wav ..read more

It's easy to fall into the trap of immersing ourselves in the energy that's around us in the water, BUT you will be so surprised at how much power you have out there.
We have all paddled out at some point and felt it, there's a vibe out there, maybe there's not many waves coming through to feed the hungry frothers, or maybe there's just one singular person having a bad day or looking to prove themselves by being the top shredder and they are not performing how they would like, so they huff and puff.
If it only takes 1 person to make the vibe feel negative, maybe it only takes 1 person to switc ..read more

Urgent action is needed to prevent the environmental destruction to the Whipsiderry coast here in Newquay.
I have surfed here since I was 15 years old and like many others in the community, it is very special to them and needs protecting.
The community fighting to protect Whipsy - PC / Greg Martin
Recent from ,@save_whipsiderry_cliffs campaign
Whipsiderry Beach on the North Cornwall coast is one of the last untouched beach in Newquay.
This little cove is home to numerous bird, bats, small mammal and other flora and fauna, left to peacefully exist undisturbed by the beach-goers below.

You don't have to feel like this, let's talk about line up intimidation.

Do you find yourself saying ‘I'm not good enough to be out here, everyone is so confident and I'm not’ - this is something that we have all experienced and still do from time to time.
It's important to remember that surfing is for EVERYONE, whether you're a beginner or advanced surfer, the ocean itself doesn't discriminate based on skill level, age or background, it's a place where we go to have fun and experience joy.
So why do we feel like this sometim ..read more

Its hot out there - Discover our top tips on how to protect your surfboard from the sun, so it can live a long and happy life!
Emily Currie on one of our trusty Zed Sleds / Photo Myeyeswontdry
Cleaning & Storing your surfboard:

2 - Dry the board with a towel or let it air dry.
3 - Store the board out of direct sunlight and avoid leaving the board in your car, the heat can make the wax melt and it can go everywhere, plus, you run the risk of the board delaminating!
