The Pine Knob Music Theatre had a “soft” opening on Thursday, May 2 — significantly earlier than its summer season usually starts and nearly weeks before the next show there. But there was nothing soft about the night’s music. Sessanta was subtitled “A 60th Birthday Celebration for Maynard James Keenan,” and a party it was. The show — two hours and 25 minutes of nearly continuous music (with a 10-minute intermission) — feted the Scottsville, Mich.-raised heavy rock icon, Tool frontman, wine-maker and philanthropist with his full participation, including his two other bands, Puscifer and A Perf ..read more

By L. Glenn O’Kray My co-editor, Chris Merlo, and I had to toss out a few homes when planning our publication, Stories from the Sidewalk, A Walk Through 137 Years That Shaped Dearborn (1833-1970). We typically eliminated a home where there were so many drastic changes to the domicile that it was no longer recognizable as it had been in earlier years. One of these excluded homes is located at 22668 Garrison St. Prior owners included R. Allyn Haigh the son of a prominent Dearborn pioneer,  and prominent Detroit Lion coach  George Wilson. In 1957 the football biggie led the Detroit Lion ..read more

It’s the last Free Comic Book Day at the place where it was created

Joe Field needed something to write about. “I came up with the idea for Free Comic Book Day when I was a columnist for an industry trade magazine,” says Field, who is the owner of the Flying Colors Comics and Other Cool Stuff store in Concord. “I was scratching for ideas when my deadline was looming, looked out the front window of my shop to see a long line of people and none of them were coming into my shop. They were headed next door to Baskin Robbins for Free Scoop Night. “I thought ‘comics are cooler than ice cream — let’s do this!’ So I wrote a column outlining the idea.” That was 2001 an ..read more

Beth Dooley | Star Tribune (TNS) “It’s impossible not to love someone who made toast for you,” Nigel Slater, in “Toast” Bruschetta is toast with a fancy Italian name. A wonderful appetizer at cocktail gatherings and backyard barbecues, in our home, it’s way more than finger food. Bruschetta for dinner is a simple and expeditious means of using up that half loaf of good bread topped with the odds and ends of delicious meals, and the last of the half-filled jars of condiments. Don’t confuse bruschetta with crostini, or “little toasts” in Italian. Crostini are thin slices of baguette that are coo ..read more

People don’t seem to mind the idea of former President Donald Trump acting as a dictator, he told Time magazine in an interview that drew swift rebuke from the Biden-Harris campaign. In a wide ranging interview given to the magazine — and shared by the 45th President Tuesday morning via his Truth Social media platform — Trump was asked to explain comments he made to Fox News host Sean Hannity, in which the former president said he would become a dictator on his first day in office. “A lot of people like it,” Trump reportedly told Time. As might be expected, President Joe Biden’s reelection tea ..read more

Christopher Snowbeck | Star Tribune (TNS) A hugely disruptive cyberattack in February exposed clear technology flaws at a UnitedHealth Group subsidiary, lawmakers said Wednesday, and raised difficult questions about whether the Minnetonka-based health care giant has just gotten too big. Andrew Witty, the UnitedHealth chief exeutive, offered an apology during testimony before the Senate Finance Committee as he disclosed that a hacked server at the company’s Change Healthcare unit lacked multifactor authentication protections.
