Project BuildOUT is the stuff our dreams are made of. We’ve been dreaming of expanding Three Angels Christian Academy for over a decade. But with verrrry little space and limited resources, this plan seemed like a pipe dream at best. But dreams do come true! And here’s the evidence: BuildOUT is complete. And that means we have classrooms for seventh, eighth, and ninth grades, as well as reorganized spaces for school administration. Additionally, this Project includes a bridge connecting the second-story classrooms to Kenbe Fèm, as you see in this photo, which will allow students to cross dire ..read more

We are thrilled beyond measure when one of the Angel House children is adopted and goes home with their new family. Sometimes this happens relatively quickly— as quickly as two and a half years— but just as often, it takes longer. In the instance of Christ, it took six long years. After many years of hoping and praying and watching his fellow Angel House friends leave for their adoptive homes, Christ’s time FINALLY arrived this month! He met his new parents at the airport in Port-au-Prince before flying to his new home in Italy, where his friends Antoine and Dalens also live. He was so excite ..read more

Imagine your typical weekday morning commute. What does a good morning look like? What makes it a "bad" morning? Now imagine that same commute in the narrow, crowded, crumbling streets of urban Haiti. Imagine those streets filled with gangs and gunfire, barricades set ablaze to block your path, and the all-too-real risk you are taking by going to a place the gangs seem intent on shutting down, such as schools and businesses. And now, imagine that fuel is so scarce that even public transportation has disappeared, so you must make that journey on foot. Perhaps those couple of miles by car becom ..read more

We had visitors! Right before Christmas, the Institut du Bien-Être Social et de Recherches (or "IBESR", Haitian Social Services) in partnership with the Rotary Club paid a rare visit to Angel House Orphanage, one of only six local orphanages to receive this honor. They brought gifts for every child and spent the day observing, asking questions, and interacting with the children in our care. Our guests were quite taken with our adorable babies, Rogerly, Gabriel, and Leilah (and who could blame them?) The older children took a break from their day in school to meet their guests, impressing them ..read more

Gifts of the Magi

The story, “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry, tells the tale of a young husband and wife who long to give each other meaningful Christmas presents, so each gives up something they treasure in order to afford a gift for the other. You can read that tale another time, but the takeaway is that their gifts were sacrificial—they each gave up something very important for themselves in order to lavish great love on the other with no thought of gaining anything in return. Many of you did just the same for our Christmas Dinner Event by supplying meals for 300 children and their families in Haiti. Thes ..read more

“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” - Socrates Fanning that flame is what continued education is all about. We love that our teachers are so passionate about education! We are more than happy to facilitate training that keeps their enthusiasm burning, so while school is out for the summer, we jumped on the opportunity to do just that. Our entire teaching staff recently gathered in our newly-completed Media Center to learn more about education and strategies for mentoring and fine-tuning their classroom goals. The Ministry of National Education provided inst ..read more

ANGEL HOUSE ORPHANAGE IS AN OASIS IN THE DESERT FOR HAITIAN CHILDREN WHO HAVE BEEN ABANDONED. It’s a place where they find safety, good care, and love. But sometimes they come to us broken and in desperate need of medical help. MEET ANGELA, JONAS, AND LEILAH. These three children arrived individually between September 2021 and May 2022, each with unique and significant medical needs. ANGELA WAS THE FIRST TO ARRIVE. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that “Angel” can be found in her name, for this little girl is truly a miracle. Despite being born without an anus, Angela is all sunshine and effervesc ..read more

Once upon a time… …a very tiny, very fragile baby boy arrived at Angel House, and his name was Garry. Left in a crib with another baby at a nearby church, his mother never returned for him. It was August 2017, and Garry was only a few weeks old. Malnourished and listless, this quiet, precious baby nevertheless shared smiles with the nannies who already loved him. Over the next three years, he grew strong and healthy. Although he was usually quiet and thoughtful, a child who loved to daydream and often preferred to play alone instead of with all the other children, Garry’s smiles grew more an ..read more

A Season for Love

Christmas is a time of year when we all especially long to love and feel loved. Perhaps it’s because that’s exactly what Christmas is all about: when God gifted the embodiment of Love to mankind in the form of baby Jesus. In John 13:24, Jesus says, “A new command I give you: Love one another…” But love is more than simply a feeling; it is when one person believes in another person and demonstrates that with their actions. You all did just that, and we are so grateful. There’s no denying that the last couple of years have been tough. For these children, their families, and all of Haiti, that ..read more

‘Jana Hilaire’ isn’t a name you have likely heard before. As Three Angels Christian Academy’s School Program Assistant, most everything Jana does is behind the scenes. But it is her passion for education and drive for excellence that brings magic to our education programming, and it is her exceptional organizational skills that make it all work. As a child in Haiti, Jana moved up through the public school system where curriculum was poor and the teachers often failed to show up (***see note at the end of this story.) It would have been very easy to simply drop out of school, as many of her cl ..read more
