Last week was so much fun. Launching a collection is always so exhilarating and it feels really special to reveal a project I love so much. This week, we’re focusing on catching up with our service which I equally love, just in a different way to making products. The list over the next few days involves turning a dress into a top and skirt; adding contrast pockets, collar and hems to a suit; and finishing off a dressing gown that started out as a wedding veil! Each one has its challenges and moments of satisfaction.    A few weeks ago, a customer sent us two identical coats. Her hus ..read more

The Re_considered Sustainable Gift Guide

Gifting encourages overconsumption right? How do you find products that have been made with the planet in mind and don't go against what you stand for?  Gifting sustainable fashion is a great way to give someone something unique to add to their wardrobe whilst reducing your (and their) environmental footprint. The fashion industry is known to be one of the most polluting industries worldwide. ‘Approximately 60% of fast fashion items are known to be constructed with plastic based fabrics.’ These materials significantly contribute to the global plastic pollution crisis over the course of th ..read more

10.10.22 Things are really changing for Re_considered. We have a new studio, Holly has started full-time, and I have made a long list of “resolutions”, goals, plans, and life changes to better the way we work and grow our circular fashion practices. It’s really exciting but it’s also hugely daunting. With more people supporting us, the more it feels as though we are doing things right, and that we have huge potential, but it also means that the stakes are much higher.  Our new start officially began on the 13th of September, when we moved into our new studio in Poplar. Having gathered a ..read more

By Naomi Weir  The most important London-based designers championing sustainability in 2022.   1. Stella McCartney First on our list is the one and only Stella McCartney, a paragon of sustainable fashion both in her collections and through her campaigns for industry reform. Her Autumn 2021 collection, J is for Joy, is her most sustainable to date, produced from eco-friendly materials such as ‘forest friendly’ viscose, refurbished fabrics, and recycled polyester. McCartney is obsessed with mushrooms – or ‘mylo’ rather, a lab-grown, sustainable and cruelty-free alternative to ..read more

Written by Rory Quick  Image by Better Cotton. Access here: https://bettercotton.org/2020-sustainable-cotton-ranking-launched/  From jeans to linens, t-shirts to bedding, cotton is the most widely used natural fibre on the planet. It is truly ubiquitous; cotton represents around half the fibre used to make clothes and textiles worldwide; odds are you are wearing at least one item made of cotton as you read this. Yet cotton’s production is set to face growing difficulties worldwide, due to the ever-malignant effects of climate change. Rising temperatures, dro ..read more

Written by Myrto With a global climate crisis on the constant rise and having survived, and still surviving, a worldwide pandemic, the pressure is put on the fashion industry for the search for better, sustainable innovations, now more than ever. Every single fashion house, from high street fashion brands to smaller local businesses has been told to rethink, recycle and rebrand themselves in order to raise awareness for the catastrophic contribution of fashion, regarding the acceleration of the climate crisis.  So, it came as no surprise at all when the ‘big boys’ of fashion, the haute c ..read more

Written by Bethany We are all hyper aware of the climate crisis conversation that is encompassing our day-to-day lives at the moment. Some of us may even have a hint of eco-anxiety: a notion of slight environmental doom. We all try to do our bit from time to time; recycling our cardboard boxes, switching off the lights when we leave the kitchen, putting on a jumper instead of turning on the heating. However, when there is more that we can individually do, and if we are physically and economically able to do so, maybe we need to ask ourselves - what is stopping us? We’ve all read the articles a ..read more

For our next Wardrobe Story we have interviewed the lovely Rosie who is a model and sustainable fashion influencer (pretty much just super cool). Rosie takes us through the memories that certain pieces of clothing conjure up as well as touching on who her style icons are! 1.    What do clothes mean to you? My clothes are like little gems I’ve forged through out my life. They symbolise certain moments in my personal and style journey.  2.    What is your favourite item in your wardrobe and why? This is a hard question, but probably either my brown ..read more

Written by Eleanor Binns Bored of looking at the same items in your wardrobe? This can happen to us all. But before going on a spending spree and buying new things, why not try hand embroidering your old clothes and accessories to give them a new lease of life and make you fall in love with your wardrobe again?   Not to mention that hand embroidery has so many benefits for your health, such as alleviating stress and reducing anxiety, keeping your brain active and your mind focused, it really is as therapeutic as people say!  This may all sound well and good, but you may be won ..read more

Wardrobe Story: Wear It Your Way (Sandy)

Written by Sandy McIntyre   For members of the LGBTQIA+ community, what we wear or how we choose to present ourselves can be our only way of self-expression, depending of course on our living and working situation. Some may wear a kind of uniform for most of our working lives so breaking out of that stale uniform into our preferred clothing, or armour as I like to say, can be our only way of feeling confident, empowered and gorgeous. For me personally, clothing is my armour. It’s the one thing in which I have complete control over each morning. It’s also the one thing that can potentially ..read more
