Upcycling furniture always has its challenges. No two pieces of furniture are the same so you never know what type of job you’re getting yourself into when you bring home a fancy new item for a snap-up bargain. But that’s the excitement of it all, right?!
You may also think that restoring the wood will be a lot easier than painting it a totally new colour. With exposed wood being very on-trend at the moment, it’s a great look to go for.
I’m going to be straight with you, for those who have tried it and are struggling to get the right colour wood and may be thinking ‘why has my top coat sent ..read more

‘How do I avoid brushstrokes on my painted furniture’ - is a question I hear a lot! To which I respond, ‘the laying off method’
This is my favourite technique for ensuring a smooth paint finish, and something that I’ve tried and tested many times.
* Disclaimer, this is probably the third time I’ve tweaked this technique! So if you’ve watched my process before then you’ll want to stay for my updates *
For this method you need:
Staalmeester roller
Fusion extender
A paint colour of your choice
Laying off brush - Staalmeester brush or any of these bru ..read more

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a great day. I have been asked by Fusion Mineral Paint to show you their new colours, I have actually painted a new piece of furniture with them, so I will show you that too!
One of the colours I was given was Cashmere. I have also got some other colours and will show you how Cashmere compares to them.
I think it's quite pretty, what do you think?!
So.. Cashmere! This is a really unusual colour. It reminds me a bit of putty. It's neutral; it's not white, yellow or grey. It has brilliant coverage. Two coats, and you're done.

I have had a few people ask me how to use wood veneer on their projects, so I decided to share how I do it with you and show you it's not as difficult as it looks!
Firstly, I was amazed at how easy this method was. I demonstrated it on the charming Mackintosh cabinet featured in the video, with lovely slatted doors. In the video below, I show how you can transform your piece and give it a new lease of life with wood veneer!

For this method I am using:
Staalmeester roller
Fusion extender
Fusion mineral paint - Coal Black
Laying off brush - Staalmeester brush or any of these brushes are just as good!
Artist brush - to tidy up any odd bits
1. As always, make sure to clean and prep your furniture.
2. Really massage the roller into your paint.
Optional: The Fusion Extender can help get rid of brush strokes too. You put the equivalent of 3 teaspoons into a whole pint of paint. Or a couple of drops into the paint tray, and this will give you a lot more open time - time t ..read more

If you want to create a piece that oozes colour, either with an abstract, marble or dripping effect… then the Fleur Pouring Medium is your product!!
Fleur has three base pouring mediums.
1. The Classic Pouring Medium
The classic pouring medium keeps the colours separate. so there’s no mixing of each of the colours.
2. The Marble Pouring Medium
Which gives you a slight bleed from one colour into the other which gives it more of a matt effect.
3. The Oxidising Medium
This is s a speciality product that you use with their reactive coppers and rusts.
This Oxidising pour takes time to work a ..read more

Fleur have brought out this brilliant range of rust patinas which include real metal elements in it to give it a genuine effect.
It’s a fairly simple process providing you use the products in the right way and what’s fantastic about these products is that they are water based, can be used on any surface (wood, metal, plastic, glass), and have an extremely realistic outcome.
There’s so much that you can do with this and it’s really quite simple (and exciting) to use!
As with most of my advice, definitely experiment with different tools, techniques and preps as you’ll find that you can achiev ..read more
