X-Men '97: Episode 6 (Lifedeath Part 2)

Geeking Out This may have been my least favorite episode, but not because it was bad, simply because it didn't show me Rogue. I want to see how she's doing. Oh well, we got the end of Lifedeath and a small Savage Xavier story. Even though Lifedeath is a famous story, I think they are very smart to not give us an entire episode of it. For one, that story is a little slower. Second, it's Storm-centric and it's tough not to see any other characters (although technically the only other character we got was Xavier, who hadn't even been in the series so far. Third, by dragging this out over multip ..read more

Geeking Out I know that I'm kind of a professional X-Men fan, but...this seems like some of the best content Marvel has ever put out. Hell, these stories are so good it might even be some of the best TV, period. I'm going to come back tomorrow and add more of a summary, but for now I'll just say...wow. Synopsis Trish Tilby Interview! Let's start right here. To the initiated, Trish might seem like a random reporter, but she's actually a big deal in the comics. She first appeared in X-Factor Volume 1 # 7 (right around when Apocalypse was first introduced) and quickly developed a long las ..read more

Geeking Out Eventually we had to get a slower episode, right!? One of my biggest pet peeves in any creative medium is when something big happens (like the events of last episode) and then we get zero follow up the next time we tune in. Really, Scott and Jean don't even make a single appearance?! Is their marriage ok? How's Jean doing? Is Wolverine making moves on Jean? Nope, nothing. And the rest of the team is acting like it's business as usual around the mansion. What does it say about the 90's when the animated show displays the Jim Lee era (costumes, timeline, etc.) but all of the storie ..read more

Introduction to X-Treme X-Men *Editor's note: This is my 230th blog and I have never been this stuck before. I've spent 3 weeks laboring on it, and I'm pretty sure I'm struggling because of how few inspiring things I have to say about X-Treme X-Men. So with that being said, I will admit that is not my best blog, and probably my worst retrospective (which are usually my best) and I just need to publish it and move on. Prior to reading X-Treme X-Men, I had heard, at best, mixed reviews. After completed the run, I find myself asking what has changed since his original run (Here's my original Chri ..read more

Geeking Out It happened! We got Inferno. I was wondering after the first two episodes if this would happen, and it did! I have to say that I really love the condensed storytelling done on this show. They did a really nice job in the original run simplifying complex ideas like the Dark Phoenix Saga, Age of Apocalypse, and everything Bishop. In the case of Inferno, I love Inferno Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 (you can probably skip this one), and Part 4...but the simplistic take on it here was somehow almost an improvement. There's a reason why the events of Inferno make numerous appearances in my cu ..read more

Synopsis Episode # 1: To Me, My X-Men Friends of Humanity (FoH) capture Roberto Dacosta Storm, Bishop, Cyclops save him The FoH have access to a giant Sentinel arm Roberto DaCosta, also known as Sunspot, was first introduced in The New Mutants Graphic Novel. In addition to being a founding member of the New Mutants, he was also a core member of X-Force as well. To see him as the new POV character for this series is super fun! Right off the bat, the action is amazing! I got chills as Storm made her dramatic entrance to the fight, foreshadowed by the temperature dropping suddenly. Cyclops's fi ..read more

Grant Morrison Retrospective

Introduction to Grant Morrison Grant Morrison was the first X-Men scribe to take the status quo and turn it on it's head. Claremont will forever be known as the heart and soul of the X-Men. He took the solid foundation handed to him from Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Roy Thomas, and Neal Adams and elevated the material and premise to powerhouse status. That foundation was incredibly strong, but it needed to be shaken up after 40 years. Morrison accepted this challenge and created one of the most celebrated and influential X-Men runs in 60 years (so far) of X-Men storytelling. In an interview with Tom ..read more
