Searching for my origins

Hey guys, My grandmother was found as a toddler in 1945 and placed in an orphanage ; She doesn’t look at all like a typical western european French woman. Very round face, thin clear blue eyes and translucent blond hair. We think She may come from Poland or maybe north germany even though this one seems less likely as less german had to flee their country than polish or other eastern european country. On last news, MyHeritage is forbidden in France. Can someone help me finding a good way to know maybe ? I’m just clueless and I need to know where we come from submitted by /u/BirdieMercedes [v ..read more

I’m female, so why did I find active Y chromosomes cells in my raw DNA data???

Hey! So, I downloaded my raw DNA file through MyHeritage over a year ago and since then I’ve been embarking on understanding genetic and genealogical background. However there’s something that’s been confusing to me, which I haven’t had any answers to. I’ve noticed that a lot of the Y-chromosome cells in my raw DNA are active? I understand that there is the possibility of there being false positives, however in my results there are a significant amount of positive throughout which confuse me? Does anyone know what might be going on? I’ve been speculating about it for a while and I’ve conside ..read more

I am a male born and raised in western Canada and I have matched 37/37 markers with a guy born in Scotland. My parents haven’t been overseas and his haven’t either. Regardless, how is it possible to match this closely? He is a few years older than me and has emigrated to western Canada. We have exchanged letters. submitted by /u/Grantsky15 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Nebula files compatible with Promethease/ Without using Sequencing.Com

I am looking for a way to get as much info from Nebula as I can that is compatible with Promethease and Clinvar. Nebula provides CCF, TBI, CRAM, CRAI &FASTQ files; however, only CRAM & FASTQ contain the entire sequenced genome. I have read that one can upload the FASTQ file to sequencing.com and generate a Clinical VCF using the Eve Premium app and then the resulting Promethease report will have 60-90 thousand SNPs. One can also upload this VCF to the Genome Explorer app on Sequencing.Com to obtain an overview of results from the Clinvar database for $5. The problem is that Sequencing ..read more

I’m a (99%) white American with Italian, French/Cajun, German, Irish, English, Scottish, Dutch, & below 1% Native American ancestry. My Neanderthal amount seems lower than your average white person’s amount. submitted by /u/DoubleLeader7762 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Anyone with positive experiences to share with whole genome testing?

TLDR - I'm struggling to find a reliable US-based lab where an individual can order a test. Has anyone had a great experience with a direct-to-consumer DNA testing company? Who did you use and would you recommend? Details: I ordered one through Dante Labs, and it's been a disaster. They never sent me a return label to ship back my test. After a month of emailing and getting no reply, I finally dogged them on Instagram. They sent me a return label and the address is a virtual mailbox at an Express Ship, clearly not a lab. When I first placed the order, their reviews were good, but when I check ..read more

DNA Test Results 99% Viking

Well not exactly. It lists 99% DNA from two Scandinavian countries but I share DNA with all of the ancient Vikings just profiled on 23andMe. I have two questions, first how unusual is it to be 99% of one thing? Related question, shouldn’t I be some kind of sickly, inbred, human-equivalent of a bulldog? Also, how is this possible? The website predicted me to be first generation American. In reality, my most recent immigrant ancestor was four generations ago. We must have some crazy pheromones that only attract other Vikings to cross time and space to find each other. If any of you are Scandina ..read more

Nebula Genomics soon to make new product launch

So the parent company of Nebula Genomics recently announced a new whole genome testing product offering scheduled for the second quarter of 2024. I am seeing a website now for DNA Complete powered by Nebula Genomics that looks like a portal to register new testing kits. They have been talking about boxes kits in mass merchants for some time now. I wonder if this is it. Also they announced a new testing laboratory on Long Island. So they may be ramping up their testing capabilities. Could also be the reason some testing backlogs have been increasing lately. They are making changes to how they ..read more
