Wikipedia defines Ubuntu as “a set of closely related African-origin value systems that emphasize the interconnectedness of individuals with their surrounding societal and physical worlds. ‘Ubuntu’ is sometimes translated as ‘I am because we are’ (also ‘I am because you are’) or ‘humanity towards others’.” Ubuntu is Teach With Africa’s “North Star”, and it was on full display at TWA’s Annual Gala, honoring the dynamic Flora Mugambi-Mutunga, held March 27th at Bissap Baobab restaurant on Mission Street! In the past few weeks, Teach With Africa welcomed four interns from CapeTown, South Africa accompanied by Hassiena Marriott, the Head of Education with the  Global Teachers Institute. It is with enormous excitement that Teach With Africa is sending a Bay Area cohort with teachers from Hamlin School For Girls and Town School For Boys to the Global Teachers Initiative (GTI) Axis Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.  This will be the first time in three years that the Summit has been able to go forward in person. Our own Flora Mugambi- Mutunga will be leading the group of six educators coming from the US, and will also be a keynote speaker!
