Rhinoplasty is one of my favorite procedures to perform because it requires quite a bit of technical expertise and I enjoy seeing my patients’ reactions at the moment of the “big reveal” when they see the initial results. That moment is especially gratifying for rhinoplasty patients at my Boston practice who know what to expect before scheduling their procedure. In this blog post, I’ll list some of the essential information that women and men should know before choosing a plastic surgeon for rhinoplasty or scheduling the surgery. Many teenagers consider getting rhinoplasty if they’re self-conscious about their noses, especially if schoolmates tease them. But the decision to undergo rhinoplasty as a teen is rarely straightforward. Before I agree to perform a nose job at my Boston practice for a teen patient, I thoroughly discuss the pros and cons of getting rhinoplasty at a younger age. When considering the timing of rhinoplasty for teenagers, the primary concern is whether their noses are fully developed. This typically occurs around age 16 for girls and 17 or 18 for boys. But physical concerns are not the only factors ..read more

When I meet with potential rhinoplasty (or “nose job”) patients at my Boston plastic surgery practice, most of them are already fairly certain surgery is the right choice for them. For others, however, the choice isn’t as clear. Many men and women who don’t love their noses struggle to decide if plastic surgery would be worth the physical and financial costs. If this sounds like you, here are a few signs to look for that indicate rhinoplasty may be the right choice for you. 1. You only take photos from certain angles. There’s a bit of irony when it comes to the results of the modern nose job. That’s because these days some patients want to add a bit of character to their noses. These rhinoplasty patients at my Boston-area practice aren’t always self-conscious about the size or shape of their noses, but they do want their noses to communicate some individuality. That’s why I customize my approach for each rhinoplasty procedure. I focus on creating a nose that’s both in harmony with the rest of the patient’s facial features and takes into account the patient’s unique concerns. A cookie-cutter, 1-siz ..read more

Rhinoplasty is a common procedure used to alter the shape and profile of the nose.  There are several additional components that can be addressed at the same time that improve the overall outcome, both aesthetically and practically.  At my Boston-based practice, the 3 most common ancillary procedures are: Septoplasty Turbinate Reduction Chin Surgery A deviated septum can disrupt the flow of air through the nose and contribute to a nose looking “crooked”.  A septoplasty, or straightening of the cartilage that lies between the two nasal openings, helps to relieve any blocka ..read more

The uses for injectable fillers continues to grow.  Initially relegated to areas like the “parentheses” around the mouth, they now are increasingly used in Food and Drug Administration off-label methods throughout out the face.  This includes their use in the nose. Before undergoing treatment the patient is anesthetized with a topical to maximize comfort.  I’ll mix additional local anesthetic into the filler so that anesthetic is delivered during the injection as well.  Small amounts of the filler are placed and massaged into the areas of deficit, in order to avoid any cont ..read more
