Fly Dragon

Today is the first day of August. And here I am, sitting in my backyard listening to the resident mockingbird singing his eclectic song.  I wish I was a bird today. And I could fly like a bird in this blue sky without all the the head traffic that recurrently become really noisy and distressful .  This is NOT a complaint. I am actually glad and grateful to be extremely alive and well at the moment. But the idea to be able to open my arm/wings and glide over hills and waves and forests is a lovely day dream that brings a grin of pleasure to my face. How can I complain? I am healthy ..read more

The time to change is now

This words were written 52 years ago and still sums it all up: “But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the promises o ..read more

April, Full Spring

I haven’t written a blog in a while. Last one was posted on January 1st. That exact day I actually tested for Covid. No symptoms, just checking for a potential exposure. Positive. Had to cancel Sunday class the next day, which never happens. And two days later, I was sick, really sick to the point of almost dying by suffocation. No air in, no air out. Helpless, painful and scary. Hospital, meds, pain, worries. A long hard story that it's been written so many times by so many people. All different, as we are unique beings, yet , somehow, all the same. It's over. I'm tired of going through it ag ..read more

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Happy New Year! I will embrace this traditional worldwide wishing well to all. The New Year is coming so minus well welcoming it no matter of what it will bring. Still. Standing in the present. Looking at the past year with a mix of emotions and trying my best to have somehow contained expectations to the one that is coming. I'll jump in it anyway. Why not? Standing in the present. Smiling at the many great moments I went through in the last 365 days and treasuring the learning that I got from the struggles, the troubles, the losses, the frustrations, the fears and the tears ..read more

Gratitude

Today I definitely want to honor the value and the concept of Gratitude on this day. No matter of what. As you know, there is much controversy about the history, the meaning, the commercial appropriation and so much have been written, discussed and debated about Thanksgiving. I fully agree that we need to revisit with impartiality the recount of our past and admit errors and misrapresentations. We need to modify a lot in our history books, but this is not the place, nor I have the instruments or the expertise to do that properly. I will just say that I fully support any individual or entity th ..read more

October Shadows
The City Waves Blog

Outdoor shadows are getting longer. A natural recurrent phenomena. Nothing to worry about it. Just the regular effect of the reposition of the earth and the sun. The days are shortening and the darkness slowly takes over the light. I like the changes of the seasons and in this time of the year, I often go to the beach or in open fields just to enjoy my long shadows, while I'm walking and moving playfully with it, dancing with my own shadows expanding toward the horizon. I truly love shadows. I always loved shadows and I often used them in my past of multimedia performance visual installations ..read more

Yesterday I held a 5Rhythms class online at 5Rhythms Livestream + On Demand. Vehllia and I have been teaching in this online platform pretty much every Wednesday and Saturday since May 2020. We take turn on who's teaching and who's dancing, and we search and discuss themes and presentation, as well as supporting each other on the visual installations and on the tech side.  It's a blessing that we can do this during this pandemic, and the ever growing wonderful connections with people from all over the world is absolutely priceless. The theme from yesterday’s class was from a quite famous ..read more

July Freedom

The first word that comes to mind in this month of July should be obviously Freedom. And the national recurrent traditional day of celebration of it; the Fourth. And why not celebrating? Traditions can be good. And freedom is a beautiful word. It can mean beautiful things. It has a beautiful meaning. And we will celebrate it too, as usual. With even more enthusiasm, as in July this year, we can be physically closer, due to some slow but giant steps. Steps gained by holding back and respecting guidance for quite some time, running this pandemic race. And hopefully our renewed dance gatherings ..read more

Welcoming June Hello June! Finally you are here! Summer and All! Welcome! How are you? I am fine. Actually I feel really good. Sun is out, San Francisco is as warmer, at list as much as it usually gets in this season, I have my Beloved smiling on my side, food on my table and a roof over my head. Love all around and the blessings of flowers and plants. Life is treating me very well. I am very grateful. I dance at home, in the garden, and even in the woods and in the desert. I just checked my motorcycle and took it for a ride on the coast. And what a ride. I got few extra pounds (the infamou ..read more

MAY

The month of May brings together ancient and modern traditional celebrations! From the very ancient Beltane to the quite recent International Workers Day, passing through the Catholic month celebration of the Virgin (!) Mary, El Cinco de Mayo and of course the Maypole dance. All kinds of communal and social gatherings are performed this month. Bonfires. Foods. Drinks. Flowers decorations. Rituals. Chants. Prayers. Festivals. I have always been curious and intrigued by the history of these traditions, their evolution (or suppression) and the meanings, spiritual and practical, that they carry ..read more
