Hello. Pugtober has been in full swing in our corner of the Pugiverse. With Pugoweens, Birthdays, work stuff, personal stuff, and Halloween, it’s been a little tough getting blogs out. I decided to go on a few weeks break to enjoy my favorite time of year with my grumble and take a mental health break. We’ll be back in November for puggin fun and adventures! Remember it’s always ok to choose me time, especially if you have pugs. See you soon ..read more

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love to decorate and partake on every Halloween activity from pumpkin picking to decorating. The highlight of the spooky season is Pug-O-Ween. I host our meetup’s Pug-O-Ween and attend a couple of others. For my pugs’ costumes, I start thinking of ideas as early as August and usually have their costumes in-hand by Labor Day weekend. There are a ton of fun options and pugs know how to rock a costume. If you are hitting a Halloween costume wall on what your little one will be this year, here are some fun ideas. Oh, the Horror! Do you like scary movie ..read more

Pug owners love to do things with their pugs. I would even say they like hanging out with their pugs more than people. Local meetups are a great way to socialize and meet other crazy pug parents. There are bigger scale events for pugs, pug parents, and pug lovers of all sorts. I have been to a couple of bigger events, which are cool because you see a big number of pugs and you also get to meet people you may see or chat with on different social media pug groups. If you are looking for a big pug event near you, here are some of the Great American Pug Festivals. The Original PugFest in PA L ..read more

Autumn is finally here! Cooler temperatures, the leaves are beginning to change color, and that earthy smell is in the air. My pugs love the fall. They love being outside as much as possible on long walks, playing in the leaves and sleeping in the warm afternoon sun. Like the summertime, there are precautions to take to keep your pugs safe in the fall. Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind when enjoying fall fun with your pug. Reuben and Freddy and fall ready! Sweater Weather In my corner of the pugiverse, it has been cooler over night and the earlier morning. If you walk your p ..read more

Recently I came across a post about someone that owns a retro pug. I have never heard of a retro pug before. I imagined a pug wearing roller skates and sweatbands posing under a disco ball, but my imagination was not that far off. A retro pug is a new, old dog that is growing in popularity, but what exactly is a retro pug and how is it different than a standard pug? Not an actual retro pug. What is a retro pug? A retro pug is a designer breed with the intent of enhancing health and vitality. The Retro Pug was developed by combining the genes of a traditional Pug with a Jack Russ ..read more

My community pool is having their annual dog swim before they close for the season. Post-Labor Day dog swims have been popping up more and more each year at community pools and swim clubs as a fundraiser for animal rescues. It is a win-win as animal rescues receive funds that they so desperately need and it’s a fun day for your dog and you get to meet other super cool dog people. Here are a few things to keep in mind to have a great puggy swim day. Our first pug Louie at the beach for a dog swim. Do’s for a Puggy Swim Understand details of the event. Are there requirements? For those that have children, this time of the year may be the most wonderful time as your kids head back to school. Back to school season will cause changes in schedule for your pug and even resulting in them being left alone more than they were over the summer. It is important to keep your pug active and entertained for longer periods of time alone. The Humane Society has a few tips to keep your dog happy during this time of year. A few things to add to the Humane Society tips: When walking your dog, be mindful of increased traffic in the mornings and afternoon as more people are ..read more

We Are Not Cool-De-La

Our neighbor has a black lab named Honcho, Honch for short. He is one of the goofiest dogs I have ever met. He loves being around people so much, he will run to them. If he sees you coming out of your house, he will get loose and try to run in. Honch has an interesting dynamic with his owners, a mother and son. Honch seems to listen to commands to the son better than mom. When mom is walking him, he gets a little wild when he sees people, dogs or animals and he will get loose. He is the talk of our neighborhood and unfortunately most people will shy away from them on walks. Reuben and Hon ..read more

Pugs are mythical creatures. They are ancient dogs and possess their own unique qualities that differ from other breeds. I tell people that are considering getting a pug, it’s not just a pet, it’s a lifestyle. Sometimes, we will have people that come to our meetups that are thinking about getting a pug and they want to see how they act, and they usually have questions along with misconceptions. There are a lot of myths out there about our brachycephalic cuties. Let’s debunk some myths. Don’t believe what you here about pugs. Pugs Don’t Shed This one gets me the most. I usually d ..read more

Pugs vs. The Wild
Welcome to the Grumble

We all love getting our pugs out for a walk. It’s good exercise for them, it helps their weight management, and they get socialization and attention beyond belief. We have a nature trail that runs through our neighborhood. The pugs love to go on the trail exploring and smelling new smells. On these walks, it is always in the back of my mind that we have to watch for wild animals. Exploring nature can be a great sensory exercise for your pug, but you need to be aware of wildlife that can be harmful. Keep your pug safe on nature walks Reptiles I came across an article from Florida, tha ..read more
