I bought a popsicle mold from Home Goods and poured raw goat milk, water, and mashed blueberries into the mold. I used a freeze-dried duck foot for the handle That part wasn’t necessary, but it made it easy to get the popsicle out of the mold. Plus it’s a yummy chew for your dog. Benefits Blueberries: Contain antioxidants and a very small amount of fiber depending on how many are given. It’s best to mash or blend fruit and vegetables so your dog can digest it. Raw goat milk: Can help digestion and helps keep your dog hydrated. Water: Hydrating and waters down the amount of raw goat milk given ..read more

Cleaning Procedures and Salmonella Regarding Raw Diets

You may find this surprising, but I don’t like handling raw meat, eating meat, or smelling thawed meat. So I make sure to clean every surface during and after prepping my dogs raw meals. Not cleaning the surfaces raw meat has touched can be potentially harmful to you (the human) because of cross-contamination. This is not something to be overly worried about or prevent you from feeding your dog or cat raw, but it's something to be mindful of. “Salmonella may be found in the intestinal tracts of livestock, poultry, dogs, cats, and other warm-blooded animals. Salmonella must be eaten to cause i ..read more

Are you low on raw pet food or don’t have access to raw meat?

A lot of people are currently struggling to find raw meat for themselves and their pets at grocery stores during this COVID-19 virus. If you are struggling with sourcing raw food for your pet, don’t feel bad if you have to supplement some kibble into their diet temporarily. Kibble brands I recommend are Victor, Farmina, and Nature’s Logic. Try to find the formulas that contain less chicken and lamb if your dog suffers from inflammation. Feed your pet either raw goat milk daily or a digestive enzyme to help their digestion from raw to kibble. Your pet may or may not have digestive upset, so it ..read more

Kibble + Fish Oil

There are a lot of fish oils to choose from. Some are not great, and a few are beneficial to your pet's health. The reason I recommend Bonnie and Clyde's fish oil is because it contains vitamin E, which helps prevent the fish oil from going rancid. I also recommend certain whole fish, but with a vitamin E supplement. The dosage can become complex depending on your dog's weight and health. I will go over that in another post. In the meantime, let’s discuss fish oil. This fish oil is: ✅ Easy to add to your pets kibble meals ✅ Adds omega-3’s, helping decrease inflammation in joints and skin ✅ Ca ..read more

Keep a lookout for more turkey parts in grocery stores this holiday season. My grocery store has great deals and a wide variety of raw turkey parts without added ingredients. I've noticed more of a variety of raw parts now than other times during the year, so this is a great time to check your local grocery stores to incorporate raw food into your pet's diet. I know some areas are more affected than others with supply because of the pandemic. My grocery store carries several different brands, and some have added seasoning, so pay attention to that. Generally speaking, avoid feeding anything w ..read more

Kibble + Water for Dogs and Cats

My “Kibble +” series will include simple, easy, and affordable recommendations on how to improve your pet's kibble diet. I’m starting with water because everyone can add this to their dog or cat's dry food. Soaking your pet's kibble in water helps increase: - Nutrient absorption - Digestion - Hydration Felines significantly benefit from adding moisture into their diet. “Cats eating dry food don’t drink enough water, and this increases the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and lower urinary tract diseases, such as feline interstitial cystitis (FIC) and urolithiasis. Feeding canned foods mai ..read more

Benefits of Carrots for Dogs

Carrots have a few benefits for our canine companions. However, I don’t rely on carrots to meet nutrient requirements for dogs. I look at this vegetable as an addition to a meal. Two benefits of feeding carrots are for the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties these vegetables contain. “Carrot is a root vegetable with carotenoids, polyacetylenes, vitamins, and minerals, all of which possess numerous nutritional and health benefits. Besides lending truth to the adage that carrots are good for eyes, carotenoids, polyphenols, and vitamins present in carrot act as antioxidants, anti-carcin ..read more

Are Supplements Bad for Dogs and Cats?

Supplement: “noun /ˈsəpləmənt/ something that completes or enhances something else when added to it.” Supplements can come in the form of gel capsules, pills, powder, extracts, or liquids. The supplements I'm referring to are not to be confused with other weight loss, body building, or energy enhancing human supplements that fall under this category. We are only discussing vitamin and mineral supplements. There are a lot of raw feeders that seem to be against feeding dietary (vitamin and mineral) supplements, but we never hear the reason why people are so against it. Instead, the recommendat ..read more

Pre-Made Raw Brands / Traveling with Raw

I receive a lot of questions about the best pre-made raw brands and how to travel with raw. I chose Primal, Stella and Chewys, Northwest Naturals, and Instinct for my road trip because these were easy to access, train, and travel with. I was also able to find Steve’s Real Food and Small Batch at a local shop where I’m visiting. Instinct isn’t my number one choice, but I use it for training as well as Primal Pronto because they are bite-sized. I usually hand feed my puppy every meal. This can be hard to do with freeze-dried, so that’s why I brought some pre-made raw food to train with. Freeze ..read more
