Aftermarket LED projector options?

My headlight assemblies are in pretty rough shape, not just the doors but even one of the lenses is cracked. Previous owner ran into something pretty hard and the front end was repaired, but not the headlights. Seems like a good opportunity to upgrade to proper LED projectors, but I'm not seeing many options out there for W124. Anyone done a conversion that looks and performs good? Stock look isn't ultra critical, it's not a show car, but of course I don't want it to look ridiculous. And I don't want to lose the fog lights, either. I love using the fogs in combination with the high beams on ..read more

1982 300CD overheated, bad temperature gauge or sending unit

So, after pulling off the freeway, my engine died. The engine was extremely hot but, the gauge didn't show it. After letting it sit for a half hour, it starts fine. But, I'm very nervous. My temp gauge has never moved much when the engine is running. Now, I suspect that the gauge isn't working at all. When I turn on the key, the gauge doesn't move even a little. What are some good ways to test both the temp sending unit and the dash gauge ..read more

Driveable with aux fans only and no main fan? (Temporary)

My fan clutch has bit it and living in Canada a replacement is weeks away. I tried an electric fan swap from some cars laying around on the farm, but any electric would have to be very low profile! I'm surprised how little clearance there is from the rad to the block. So, my aux fans work, and the highs are only around 20C this week. Will they be able to keep temperatures under control for a 90% highway run to the city and back for groceries? This car has become my "daily" (weekly) driver for city trips, with my ex-wife getting my other car. I obviously could jumper the condenser switch to h ..read more

Hey all, I've been searching high and low for the little metal spring clip that holds the battery cover under the hood of my E250 bluetec...the box that sits on top of the battery. It has air ducts in it that go to and from the cabin filter at the firewall. Anyone know where I can find one? Sort of looks like this.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/394914519506?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-166974-028196-7&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=394914519506&targetid=2276391439863&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9013461&poi=&campaignid=21006106028&mkgrou ..read more

hey dieselmb hivemind, it has come to my attention that the om603 from 1987 300sdl has a vacuum pump with exposed ball bearings and that when it fails has possibility of causing catastrophic engine damage. i have heard that its best to replace om603 original vacuum pump with the updated vacuum pump with sealed ball bearings and to inspect vacuum pump timing device for wear, and if it is worn to replace vacuum pump timing device. What is the vacuum pump timing device part number? is the vacuum pump timing device the vacuum pump gear sprocket? is it the cam disk, cam follower, cam roller? if it ..read more

W124 300d 253k miles. While driving on the highway (ie not a bumpy road) at 65 mph or so, the ABS anti-lock brake system light flickered off and on a few times over the course of 30 miles. This has happened before and from what I know, it's no crisis but I wanted to ask why does this happen and how to fix it? Almost at the same time, and this never happened before, the ARS airbag restraint system light flickered off and on. Why did that happen and how to fix that? Thanks ..read more

MAJOR WARNING TO EVERYONE!

Like most people, I don't come here that often, only when I have a problem of course. I had a problem with my car recently that could have been fatal. I am calling on the admins of this web site to change the web site where any new emergency info posted would be up first, and permanent. That is, instead of as it is now where everytime I come there is "Why don't we all post a photo of our diesels" and "What did you do to your diesel Mercedes today?" at the top, there should be a post saying "Emergency repairs you need to do to your car now" and some way for people to see if there are any new t ..read more
