For those who have seen my postings you may be aware I have a good projector and screen already. I have been in the AV business for years as a commercial integrator working for someone else. But, along the way I've picked up over half a dozen different projectors. Yet, every now and then with my searching about for others I come across really good deals either locally or on eBay that I will throw a bid at. Typically I lose the auction because I get outbid. But, what the heck right? Saw the cheapest WXGA DLP projector on eBay. Literally just searched for WXGA Projector on eBay and sorted by pr ..read more

Upgrading a cheap projector, need advice

I’m looking to upgrade my setup and need some advice as I’m a novice in this world. I have a fairly large room with 140” retractable screen. The current projector is ceiling mounted about 14’ away but can move it if needed. I’d like to stay in the $1000 range if possible. Primary use is movies and golf sim but would love to game on it if there’s something in that range. Currently looking at the BenQ TK860i on Amazon for $1300. Thought?! submitted by /u/Ryanclimb78 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Replacing a projector

Hi everyone, We just purchased a new home with a dedicated theater room. The first thing we want to do in the room is replace the BenQ W1070 with something 4k. The room is reasonably dark with the black out curtains closed and we are in the process of finding the right color to paint the walls. In the meantime we are looking for sub $3k projectors that won't be too loud, will have access to streaming services as well as the ability to handle physical media that I throw at it from my blu ray collection and the HTPC that will house a ton of content. The current projector is ceiling mounted abou ..read more

Christie DHD550-G Replacement/Maintenance Advice

Hey all - I have a Christie DHD550-G that I picked up for $50 from a college computer recycling center a few years ago and it's approaching the end of life cycle for the lamp (1450 out of 1500 hours). I've read that there's no reason to replace the lamp until the lamp just doesn't work so I'm fine with waiting that out as I've run it on eco mode the entire time I've had it but considering I have no idea how old this is and only know it's gone through 3 lamp changes (shown in the service menu) I can estimate it's been running for about 5000-6,000 hours. Additionally as this was discontinued in ..read more

To Repair or not to Repair

Just wanted to get some opinions on what I should do. I have a LG HU810PW Projector (4K Laser). Has roughly 1800 hours and bought it new back in 2021. It's been pretty solid up until a few months ago when it started gradually going out of focus. During the course of a movie or playing a game it'll go out of focus, if I turn it off and come the next day turn it back on, it'll be out of focus. I've cleaned it, blown dust out, factory reset, etc. and nothing has helped. Found Atlas Electronics, Inc. on projector central and called them, can send it in for repair (90 day warranty on repairs) no e ..read more

Searching for a quiet projector like the XGIMI Horizon but less features

Since months I'm searching for a silent beamer like the XGIMI Horizon (HD not 4k). I've borrowed a XGIMI Horizon from my work place and need to replace it. But I don't need all those features and want something else. I've tried the LG LARGO (HU70LS) which was supposed to have a max. noise level of 30 dB and an oise level in power saving mode of 25 dB. The XGIMI states that it has also 30dB max. But the Largo was noticeable more loud. So I gave it back. Then I've tried the LG PF610P which was also louder than the XGIMI. Which was surprising because the PF610P also had in its spec sheets a max ..read more
