Hi, I like the look of the TV stand they’re using on the BBC coverage of the snooker at the moment. See attachment for a blurry screenshot. Does anyone know where to get one, or do you think it’s been custom made? Thanks, Sam ..read more

Cheap video cameras and SDI - problems

We have some really cheap, rubbish Praktika video cameras ("camcorder"). These are used, in conjunction with an assortment of Blackmagic SDI microconverters and PC monitors to set up video feeds when we run musicals with a pit band hidden away from the stage: one feed of the conductor being sent to all the locations they need to be seen in (typically 4 separate places), and one feed of the stage being sent to the conductor (so they can see what's going on). Every single time this setup is used, there are problems and it takes many, many hours of frustration and trying the same thing in differe ..read more

Novastar screen setup

Hi all, I've been tasked with an issue that's come up, in one of the screen rooms we have a large display mounted on the wall which is then connected up to a Novastar vx6s controller. Unknown who or when, but someone has come along and reset the box back to factory defaults, which is where I've been tasked with getting it back up and working, but from a completely non-technical background when it comes to this. I've read up on the Novastar documentation which has led me to the Novastar SmartLCT software, but the mention of cabinets is where I'm confused and where I go from here.  It looks ..read more

I am posing a query here, as I know that what is in my head can in theory be done, I am just unsure of exactly how to implement it. I am looking to update video playback within my theatre, the current setup uses powerpoint from a PC directly to a projector, simple and easy enough - however, multiple powerpoint files are required as the preshow, 5 mins prior to curtain, interval, 5 mins prior to curtain and post show 'B-Roll' are all essentially differently.  Whilst the current setup is not that clumsy, save for powering the projector off and on with the remote, I have been thinking of upg ..read more

HDMI recorder - to record presentation stream to projector

Does anyone have any experience with an entry-level (ie cheaper) hardware recorder for HDMI? I want to record an HDMI stream sent to projector for recording the slides lectures to sync back up with the camera video later. Do any of the cheaper Chinese units work or do I need to buy an Atmos Ninja or similar etc? I'd prefer something that could be powered rather than battery - I can do this with a laptop and capture card also but I'd prefer something hardware/standalone. (Currently I take a copy of the slides and sync the still images back up to what I see on screen - but a) it takes ages and ..read more

Show Relay Distribution

Hey folks, What's the best way nowadays to distribute show relay TV? In the olden days before Digital/HD/SDI/1080/999i/SuperDuperProtocolX etc, it was just a case of sticking the roof aerial into a cascade of UHF modulators that had the show relay camera(s) plugged into them, and picking a frequency not occupied by the five main channels, but having not bought a TV for about 15 years, I don't even know if they come with analogue tuners... I'm looking to keep this simple if possible. I've got a bit of money to spend before the end of the financial year- there's already a UHF distribution networ ..read more
