I normally use an agent for my annual Retirement extension, but she is now insisting on me obtaining all the required bank stuff in advance. I concluded that if I'm doing that, I may as well save her fee and do it all myself, for the first time in 6 years. Here are my observations, which may inform others.
I stated at home by downloading the TM7 and photocopying every page in my passport that had anything on it. First thing, well 11am, I went to the bank. They were excellent, SCB in Big C South. I updated the passbook, got the letter and 12 months statements.  ..read more

I did get a non-O Visa with ME last year, and expect to come back to Thailand in August for a few months.
Do I need a return ticket booked to go back to the USA in case I'm asked?
Not sure how long I might stay and sometimes find good deals on 1 way tickets. Rather not book the return ahead of time
After many trips to Thailand over the years I was asked once in Boston at the AA counter to see my return ticket...and that was before I had the retirement visa ..read more

I am planning to visit Thailand again. On this particular trip, I first want to volunteer with SOI DOG FOUNDATION for a few days. Once my volunteer work is over, I want to spend the remainder of my time in Thailand with friends. If I want to do this, what options do I have? Thanks ..read more

Hi,
I am officially married with my Thai wife. We have together 2 kids. My intention is to change my visa based on retirement to a visa based on marriage. I have previously used an agent for my visa matters, but now my income limit exceeds the required monthly income of 40,000 bht, so I can now handle my visa myself. My problem is that my wife’s and our children's official address is at my wife's place of birth, but I live together with her and our kids at a different address, but anyway in the same city as my wife’s place of birth. Could this cause problems when I apply mys ..read more

I came to Thailand in Feb and did a visa run to Cambodia once in April then got an extension for 30 days and it ended in July. I went to Phnom Penh on 25 July 2022. Went to Thai Embassy on the 26 July to apply for a Visa, it was DENIED. They wrote a message on my paper that says "Visa run denied". I flew to Bangkok on the 29 July without a visa thinking I can get the Visa Exemption. At Suvarnabhumi airport immigration denied my visa exemption. They pulled me over and interrogated me for over an hour. One of the immigration officer told me " I think you not a tourist, you tried to live here. Te ..read more

Did my 1 year extension of stay renewal (Non-O Retirement). No major issues, just 2 minor observations that may or may not be useful to others.
1. Flew out of Thailand during the previous 1 year period, about the time the TM30 issue seemed to be winding down a bit, meaning they'd gone nuts about it at first, and then after a while, remember seeing unofficial reports here and elsewhere that some Immigration offices around the country reportedly quit bothering with it, so I did not report when I flew back into Thailand.
Indeed, I/O flagged it within the first few mi ..read more

Does anyone have any recent experience in obtaining a non O marriage visa at the Consulate in Penang? The website says 3 working days to process the application. Is this correct? Does the day of application count as the first day of processing? For example if you apply on a Monday morning can you pick up the visa on the Thursday afternoon ..read more

My Non-O (with ME) visa expires Jan 2025. I read I can only renew within 30 days of expiring and wanted to be sure. I travel back and forth from the USA and stay here ~2-3 months each times so I need to plan.
I assume I need to show proof that I had 800k baht in my bank account the last 3 months prior to renewal. Does that mean the balance cannot drop below that on any day in the period? I use online banking and see that I can request bank statements via email and assume that is ok. I also need a TM30 (last time they just checked me online) b ..read more
