In his first budget presentation to the Memphis City Council, Mayor Paul Young recommended a 75-cent hike in city property taxes. Young explained that if the 75-cent property tax increase is implemented, homeowners with a $100,000 property can expect their taxes to rise by around $188. The ongoing trial of Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and Joshua Holloway has been put to a halt. Monday morning was the scheduled trial but was suddenly canceled right before. Holloway’s attorney’s Leslie Ballin and Rebecca Adelman filed a joint motion to withdraw as council last week. The trial stems from the altercation between Morant and Holloway while playing pickup basketball at Morant’s house in 2022. Audio of the bond hearing determining Jaylen Lobley should be released of his own recognizance (ROR) after being charged with auto theft and possession of a prohibited weapon is now available. Lobley, 18, was the suspect killed in a shootout with police last Friday. The shooting also killed MPD officer Joseph McKinney, 26.
