When I was working on my PhD in German one of our professors told us (and we were a very mixed ethnic group) that it was imperative to know the Bible in order to understand German literature, because so much of it refers and relates to it. At that point I was very grateful that I had been brought up with the importance of Bible reading and knowledge (not for the same reason our professor wanted us to read it!). “Voices Together” is a name close to “Voices United,” the name of the United Church in Canada’s hymnal, but “together” is different from and not as strong as “united,” it seems to me. Of course, we could not use “Voices United;” it is already taken, appropriately by the United Church of Canada. In my congregation, the “Worship Band” (which come across more as a group of entertainers rather than worship leaders) generally fails to bring voices together, unlike the hymns sung in four-part harmony, often unaccompanied.
