Words – Clare Photos – Mitch Perth locals Xenobiotic opened the evening with a drum-heavy chaotic bang, bringing everything they had and leaving it all out on the stage. The lead vocalist stood on the centre platform with outstretched arms, looming over the crowd while the guitarist’s head banged behind him. By the third track, the room was full and buzzing. He Who Dwells in Grime from 2018’s first full-length album Prometheus was introduced as ‘We don’t play this often but we want to see some heads snap!’. Cover shot – ORGY Korn‘s Jonathan Davis was so excited by ORGY that he created his own record label in order to sign them and fund their debut album. Not to be outdone, Limp Bizkit‘s Fred Durst discovered a very young COLD and threw his considerable weight behind them. Both Nu Metal giants’ intuitions were well vindicated when Orgy‘s groundbreaking and revolutionary Candyass and Cold’s incredible 13 Ways To Bleed and Year Of The Spider albums all became absolute classics of the era, going on to collectively sell five million copies worldwide and putting a few more Platinum and Gold records on ..read more

Words – Clare Photos – Mitch Thursday night EM headed to the Prince Bandroom in St Kilda for the Gatecreeper tour with performances by Kruelty and World of Joy. As entertaining as the previous night was with Bring Me the Horizons sensory overload at John Cain Arena, I was definitely looking forward to being cloaked in darkness, obliterated by some dank and doomy death metal. What can I say? It just speaks to my goddamned soul.  As I ascended the stairs inside The Prince Hotel I heard the blasting death metal of Gutless who joined the tour as the local support for the Melbourne l ..read more

Words – Clare Photos – Mitch Due to a completely sold-out show at Rod Laver Arena, the Bring Me the Horizon Down Under Tour decided to add another night at the smaller John Cain Arena which was the first stop on the tour. Joining them were Daine, Make Them Suffer and Sleep Token. The delightful Daine used her sickly sweet autotuned vocals to entertain the first concertgoers through the doors. The Gelfling-like girl performed a few singles including Doom, Cut My Heart Out and what I’m sure the crowd was hanging out for, Salt, which featured the Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes ..read more
