Australia’s finest purveyors of melodic noise Trophy Eyes have had a busy year already. This was followed up with a raucous regional Australian victory lap with their mates Dear Seattle, then finally the band managed to take one deep long breath.   I guess they knew what 2024 had in store for them. The band are currently half way through a sold out European tour, their fir ..read more

14 April 2024 – Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane – words by Sara Rose – pictures by Bec Harbour Night One of the tour with no name had a stacked lineup of Jax, We The Kings, Boys Like Girls and of course headliner Simple Plan. It was packed and busy, but the crowd was happy and absolutely enjoying themselves. I grabbed a spot on the balcony at the Fortitude Music Hall and watched as the crowd started to grow. There was a range of ages, but I feel like the main age group was the 30 plus year old emo kids that have grown up but still love these bands (myself included). The vibe of the room was gre ..read more

11 April 2024 – The Zoo, Brisbane – words by Lucas Bell – pictures by Bec Harbour In the band’s first Australian shows in over eleven years, British metal crew Orange Goblin made their long overdue return to Australia last Thursday. To put that into perspective, they’ve released two records since, and have a third on the way later this year ready to go. Bolstering the show on the support slots though, are two incredible acts, including Melbourne based doom metal band Dr Colossus, and the self described Sydney Heavy Sludge-Grunge duo, Astrodeath.  Astrodeath were the first cab off the rank ..read more

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have announced their new album Dark Rainbow for release on 26th January 2024. The band are also sharing the album’s lead single ‘Man of the Hour’, which was given its airplay debut by Clara Amfo on her BBC Radio 1 Future Sounds show last night. New single ‘Man of the Hour’ makes it clear that we are entering into a whole new era for The Rattlesnakes. Self-evaluation and reflection are very much on the agenda throughout Dark Rainbow, and they pave the way for a sound that puts southern gothic balladry and crooning alt-rock to the front. Like a neon high on pastiche ways to incandescent schemas… all overripe with contracted pulps of fiction. Slices of noir lightly squeezed liberally over deserts of modulated rhyme. Pupils set to a glaze in the salmon pink skies and ochre horizons… nigh on a peaking runaway of psychosis. From the dark nights of Regurgitator’s INVADER emerges the COCAINE RUNAWAY. “One evening in London I was invited by a Circus friend to watch her perform at the Tate Modern. After closing, when everyone had left, she took my hand and lead me through the gallery. We wandered togeth ..read more

7 April 2024 – The Princess Theatre, Brisbane – words by Alessandro Ambrosi – pictures by Charlyn Cameron What’s better than a metal concert to kick the Sunday night blues right in the &#$@??? Tonight, on the menu, we have UK’s Carcass with their 40+ years career (give or take a 10-year break from 1996 to 2006) of pioneering grindcore early on, to death metal and whether it was the former or the latter Carcass has always set the rules to follow. Supports The Black Dahlia Murder might have sounded quite different, if it wasn’t for Carcass.  Citing the UK band as on of their major influ ..read more
