As the SBC’s Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force prepares to give its report and recommendations to messengers at the 2024 SBC Annual Meeting in June, members met with state leaders to preview that report and to strengthen the partnership among Southern Baptists for preventing and dealing with sexual abuse in churches.
The group met in Dallas April 9 for a day that included presentations, roundtable discussions and Q&A times.

Following a year-and-a-half-long investigation, the U.S. Department of Justice has concluded its inquiry into the Southern Baptist Convention’s handling of sexual abuse without any charges being filed against EC’s leadership, The Tennessean reported March 6.
“On February 29, 2024, counsel for the SBC Executive Committee was informed that the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York concluded its investigation into the EC (Executive Committee) with no further action to be taken,” SBC Executive Committee interim president/CEO Jonathan Howe said in a statement.

On April 28-May 2, starting at 3 p.m., the South Carolina Bible Reading Marathon will take place on the south steps of the South Carolina State Capitol building in Columbia. For 90 hours, the Bible will be read out loud for state representatives and the public to hear and participate in reading. And His Word will not return to Him empty (Isaiah 55:11).

Quintell Hill, pastor of Multiply Community Church in Monroe and president of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, will be joining the International Mission Board as African American church mobilization strategist starting April 1.

Representatives from 21 states came together for an intensive training on cross-cultural missions taught by International Mission Board missionaries April 2-5. The annual Missions College hosted near Richmond brought IMB missionaries from all over the world together with pastors, church members and missions leaders.

When Eli Buckley was ordained into the gospel ministry on March 17 at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Pauline, he also was extending a family legacy of ministry.

A Spartanburg-area pastor will be nominated to serve as president of the 2025 Southern Baptist Convention’s Pastors Conference.
Fred Luter, pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, told The Courier Feb. 29 that he intends to nominate D.J. Horton, senior pastor of Church at The Mill in Moore, during this year’s conference in Indianapolis.
