Our Mo has suddenly become aggressive towards myself and my two daughters. He's always had resource guarding issues, but tonight he bit my 11yr old which has never happened. It's always when he has something in his mouth...a shoe, piece of food or wrapper etc. We have been successful having him go to his 'place' and then swap out the item for a treat. However, this past Fall he got quite sick and was at the vet several times and has become very scared and won't let us cut his nails or... 3.5 year old - Biting/Aggressive all of a sudden ..read more

Leaving the House: Crate, Designated Room, Combo?

We're trying to figure out the best way to start training our V (10 wks) and getting her used to us leaving for short periods. Currently her crate is in a room that is also dedicated to her (10x10). We've tested just putting her in the room and walking away for shorts periods of time. Of course she yelps and that's fine/expected. We've also put her in the crate and done the same, also with yelping/whining. Question is which method would be best to stick to? Feels like we should put her... Finn is almost 2 years old now, did a 2 week off leash e collar training at about a year old. Sleeps in his crate at night and is free to roam the home when we aren’t home. He has been awesome off leash, really enjoying mountain biking (10 miles in an hour), walks pretty good on the leash and is pretty good at the dog park. All of his commands have been great with everyone, and will do pretty well with the kids holding the leash on a walk. The only thing I’m having issues with now is what... Hi all, Does anyone have any recommendations of a book for training a Vizsla that they have found very insightful? I've been on a steep learning curve for the last 12 months using gun dog training, training classes and countless YouTube videos. I'd like to further my knowledge of the breed and applicable training techniques and I'd be really grateful for any recommendations you have. Thanks in advance ..read more

From time to time we get questions, and discussions on conditioning dogs to ecollars. While this interview is from some years back, it still holds true today. https://pineyrunkennel.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/E-collarArticleMoFinal.pdf ..read more

Hi everyone! I have a 4 year old female vizsla who we adopted last year, she was rehomed because her previous owner didn’t have the time to be able to look after her as he worked a lot. She never had any formal training for any of the years she was with the previous owner because he didn’t have the time, which means I’m now having to start from the beginning. She is very high energy and I love her but I’m feeling so lost with training! The biggest problem I have is her not being able to... Losing hope with lead training 4 year old ..read more

Does anyone have experience (or a success story) of training and/or conditioning their V to anticipate strange kids? Mine can be apprehensive when she sees them. We adopted her around the 4 month mark, and prior to that she had been living in a barn without much socialization. We did our best from 4months and onward to do slow socializations, and as a young puppy she was naturally curious, confident and would accept treats from kids no problem up until the 1 year mark. As soon as she hit... Apprehensive with Unknown Children ..read more

Luka is 15 months old and is still..crazy. I feel like maybe I’m not doing a good job with him. Before I just assumed he’s in his adolescent phase so it’s normal for him not to listen but shouldn’t he be getting over that by now? He’s so much to put up with. He gets enough exercise and I work from home so he’s not just home alone all day. He doesn’t care to listen to what I say unless I have treats. He still steals stuff for attention on purpose that he knows he’s not supposed to, constant... 15mo..Does it get better?? Suggestions ..read more

Hi everyone. I have an 18 week female vizsla, Szabo (pron Say-bo) Fire. I have read many posts on here regarding long line training but I think I need more detail. Can someone explain to me exactly how to use the long line for recall? I have read differing instructions on what to do if the dog does not obey the command. Am i supposed to tug on the harness if she doesn't come, or reel in the line and go to her, or pull her toward me so she comes. I have been using a long line to safely allow... Waking up at 3 am every night on the dot

There might be other posts on this but I’m writing this at 3 am (uk) under mild distress so haven’t sat down and looked at everything. My 4 month old Vizsla has woken up at 3 am every night since we got him at 9 weeks old. When we first got him we just took him to potty then straight back in the crate and no problem back to sleep. However since we’ve started working on his separation training in the day the 3 am wake up is becoming nightmarish. He is howling and going crazy even if we’re... waking up at 3 am every night on the dot ..read more
