Hey guys, I am an EOD K9 handler working with a 4 yr old lab. I have only been working with this dog for a couple of months and he has been great at his job but has a few bad habits I am trying to to train out of him. One of the things I have been trying to fix is his obedience to oder. During training I will get him onto oder and any leash pressure at all and he pulls off of it. I am wanting him to start dragging me (figuratively speaking) to oder when he gets on it. Any techniques or... Teaching K9 to pull leash ..read more

So I'm freshly home after training up and certifying an explosive detection dog. It's a Belgian Malinois. It was a large kennel environment for 13 weeks and now that I'm home the dog is destressing. The issue I'm running into is she isn't hitting on odor like she did before. Is it just the new environment or something else. Also I know I'm going to get different answers here but keep her in the crate all the time or leave her out except for when I'm not home or nights? Thank you ..read more

Good evening, I have a new Mal puppy . Apollo has food aggression bad. He acts like he is starving. We have to put him outside or kennel him at meal times for the family. And segregate him when we feed the dogs. He has even challenged the old man, Zeus for his food. Not a good idea, Zeus is my 12 year old Mal. He scarfs his food so fast he chokes. We have tried the puzzle bowls , but we still have to stand with him. And force him off the bowl to slow him down. Has anyone else had... Food aggression ..read more

Hand Feeding

Recently I've taken up hand feeding to build more engagement with my 10 month old GSD female. It's been working great so far. I've really extended the duration of her attention in training sessions. I'll generally do about 2/3 of her meal rewarding obedience during a 30 minute walk-and-train session, then the last 1/3 free-shaping at home. Twice a day. The thing is, she eats three cups of food a day. So it takes a lot of training to work through that. Especially when I try to start cutting... Hand Feeding ..read more

Dog Collar Reviews

For a simple webbing collar that won't break the bank, look no further than the Blueberry Classic Adjustable. It's adaptable, simple to adjust, and easy to put on and take off. However, as with any webbing collar, if your dog chews on it while not wearing it, it may not last long. This collar also performed well in our odor absorption test, retaining no odors after washing ..read more

Hello, Can someone tell me what the general differences are between IPO, PSA, and French ring? What do you do with your dogs? What do you prefer? Why? I have a baby Beauceron and I'm looking for more sports to get involved with him other than obedience and conformation. We've been to a few herding trials and it's definitely something I would like to pursue once he's older, but I'm interested in the protection sports as well and would like some more information about them. Hi everyone, question for whoever can help. I have an almost 2 y/o malinois. Up to about 2 weeks ago things have been great. He received a 1 month board and train from a professional which set the tone and foundation. General attitude, coach-ability and temperament are typical as seen in the breed; however a couple weeks ago he began displaying a new bad behavior. Typically when he needs to go out he will ring the bell or scratch at the sliding door. Lately anytime he is home alone with my... Help with new behavior ..read more

Table training discussion

Noticed Jody(?) asked why the original Table training thread was locked (surprise surprise!) in the article section, which says it is not a discussion section. She also asked some very basic simple questions (Which seem to be the hardest for some to answer) I thought I might put up her question in a discussion forum and add a little historical perspective in an attempt to answer her first questions (I will then quickly duck and cover until what happens, happens) Jody asked...
