Vote No on Amendment 4

Amendment 4, an extremely grave abortion initiative will appear on the Florida ballot November 5. Many are totally unaware of how deceptive and deadly this initiative really is. It would allow abortion until birth. It would eliminate all pro-life laws that currently protect women and children. And it would allow a minor to have an abortion without parental consent.  Currently, Florida law requires abortionists to give women seeking an abortion detailed information regarding the development of the unborn baby and the potential risks and complications of the procedure. An ultrasound must be ..read more

Teaching Children How to Handle their Emotions

This summer I got to take my kids to the new Inside Out 2 movie. It seems to have reawakened discussions of allowing emotions to “take the wheel.” While this movie introduced new characters that come along with age such as Anxiety, Envy and Embarrassment, we were truly shown what happens when one negative emotion is allowed to rule above all others. The emotion that seems most intense for parents when it takes over is anger.   Some children hear the word “No” and they become frustrated or argue. They are disappointed, but they remain in control. Other children hear the ..read more

Tom Lukasik: Give a Child a Home this Christmas
Good News » Family

It’s summertime, but we’re thinking about Christmas. I was in my office the other day, looking toward a whiteboard our team had filled with numbers. These numbers represented the number of homes available to kids in foster care, the number of kids who still need homes, the number of families who don’t go on to get licensed and more. But what I found myself thinking about besides all those big numbers was how if just one family started the process to become a 4KIDS Foster Family right now, they’d be giving a child a home and a family this Christmas.  ..read more

No Longer a Crisis Parent

When I first arrived at Sheridan House, I spent some time with my predecessor about the duties of the executive director of the ministry. Driving home from the office, I felt somewhat discouraged. It seemed the job description indicated I would have to spend all my available time “putting out fires.” Crisis everywhere The next six months proved my expectations correct. Feeling like a fireman, I was simply putting out one fire after another without having any time to do prevention work. I began to feel that either I was incompetent, or the job could not be done.   An ..read more

I came across this story that got me thinking… A mysterious letter A small family, known as the Harts, living in an average suburban community, received an unusual letter from an unknown distant relative. The letter stated that within the next several weeks they were planning to visit and were appreciative (nice way of saying expectant) of their willingness to provide accommodations. There was no contact information, only a black and white photograph with the grainy picture of an old man. You can only imagine their apprehension, confusion and curiosity. The Harts were a young couple, married l ..read more

It was 30 years ago this April that God used an ad in the Buffalo News to change our lives. My wife Linda and I saw an ad reading, “House Parents, Wanted” – 1,371 miles away from our home in Buffalo. We sold our house, sold our cars, left comfortable jobs, and took off on a new, half-time life adventure. What really made that ad stand out to us was a verse our pastor had shared a few years prior, James 1:22, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”  We set out ..read more
