Let's not "survive the summer"

I’m typing this in late June as a relatively new mom of 3. Specifically, two elementary schoolers and a one-year old. I feel like I still haven’t recovered from the end of the school year. “Maycember” comes in hot and as a relatively new mom to the school calendar it completely kicked my butt (granted I did it with an infant) this time. My little first grader and pre-kindergartener had completely divorced schedules packed with concerts, end-of-school parties, field trips, award ceremonies, and for some reason we thought it would be fun to add in competing soccer schedules into all of this ..read more

The Best exercises for pregnancy

(What I wish every OB/ Midwife would recommend.) Man, pregnancy can feel so scary. In the early days you might be feeling too exhausted or sick, or you might not even know you're pregnant until almost your second trimester. (Woops. Sorry, Piper.) This can vary for everyone, and it can feel super overwhelming. Some people will insist you need to just stay in bed, some will shame you for not doing enough, or too little. As someone who has worked with prenatal women for almost two decades and experienced three pregnancies herself, is what I recommend. Breathing and building a strong pelv ..read more

(It's probably not a vacuum.) Hi, first of all. If you're reading this, I think you should know you are a really great partner. Seriously. Not everyone takes the time for this. Go YOU! Second, here are some hints to what most moms want for Mother's day. No, I'm not going to tell you we all want massages or diamonds, more on this later. We are going to have a quick chat about how she wants to spend her time, and how she wants to feel. These are some of the most common "wishes" I have heard from my clients over the years, and I'm sprinkling in some extra advice. None of this should be take ..read more

How to workout when you're tired

Most newborns suck at sleeping. So do toddlers and big kids with nightmares and also me, with chronic insomnia. We also know that sleep (and lack of it), can make or break a workout.  Honestly, I’ve done 3 triathlons on very, very little sleep, so it can be done! But obviously not ideal. I’m writing this at 10 month pp with baby #3, so we are very, very into the sleep-deprivation phase of parenting. (Which feels like most of it, but hopefully is not your own experience!) To workout or not workout when you’ve had a bad night is something most of my clients struggle with as well. We kno ..read more

Just for fun - xx vs xy

Just for funsies, let’s chat about sex guessing!!! Baby #3 will arrive at any minute, and we are ready for them! This is our second time we have decided to leave the baby's biological sex a surprise. For our first, we were all about having a baby vs boy or girl. We got a ton of gender-neutral clothing and nursery items, which came in handy when baby #2 came out differently! We decided to find out the sex for #2 to help baby #1 understand the concept of what was happening. Finn was only 19 months when we had Piper, so we figured it would be more helpful for us to refer to him getting a “sister ..read more

Carrot Cake Muffins

We've all had the bunch of carrots in the back of the veggie drawer with no plans. Or the 5lbs of carrots that arrives in the grocery order, when you only asked for 5 total. Or picked out a gorgeous bunch at the market, to have your kids change their minds mid-week, and refuse to touch them. My kids will eat a whole carrot that’s been peeled, won’t touch baby carrots unless it’s been chopped up to matchsticks, they love steamed soft carrots, but they will not go near a carrot that’s been put into a stir-fry or soup. Kids are fun. Fresh produce is expensive. jump to recipe tips for baking with ..read more

How I'm Prepping for Baby #3

If you’ve read my posts before, you know we are 2Under2 survivors. Our son was 11 months old when I got pregnant with our daughter, and I was not ready at all. The first year of her life was by far the hardest of mine. Managing a toddler who would run into traffic with a newborn with colic was, um, awful. For this one, I am telling myself that even though we will be on zone vs man-to-man defense, this will be easier. Our children will both be in school next year (cue heavenly music) and we are living near lots of family and friends with young kids. Finn and Piper are now 6 and 4, so everyone c ..read more

Why the scale doesn't budge... and what to measure instead.

** Content warning - I will begin this blog post discussing some of the reasons a person’s weight on a scale will either fluctuate or stagnate in regards to sleep, exercise, and elimination. I will conclude with other methods of measuring your physical health. Please skip to the second half of this post if discussing weight gain/ loss is upsetting to you. My clients hire me as their trainer for many reasons, and weight loss is often one of them. I will encourage my clients to set achievable goals within a realistic timeline, and when we are working on weight loss via exercise, lifestyle, and ..read more

Lemon Poppyseed Zucchini bread

(This was a huge crowd-pleaser!) If you’re like me, Monday food prep day is a lot more ambitious than Friday food prep day. I normally shop after my Barre class and, well, the post-workout me loves vegetables more than than Friday pick-up me. So I usually end up with some very sad looking veggies at the bottom of the drawer by Saturday. Guys I’m going to be putting zucchini in everything I bake. It’s so good! I scoured the internet for a zucchini bread recipe that my kids would eat (no nuts, no dried fruit) and that I’d serve them (not a ton of sugar or oil). I couldn’t really find one, so th ..read more

This corner of the blog is dedicated to my clients and students. I think a lot of us tend to feel extremely isolated during some of these rough patches of motherhood. My clients have generously offered to share some of their tips that have worked for them in our process together, and also to offer up some support and struggles that they’re dealing with. If I notice a pattern of success or areas that my clients are working on, I'll share anything that I think might be helpful to you and your journey! What's on most of my client's minds this month? SPRING BREAK!!! For most of us, gone are the d ..read more
