Hello, My almost 1 year old gsd has started growling and lunging at peoples during our walk. Usually he walks past them fine, the problem is when someone is in a weird position, like squatting down, or if they try to approach him. He will then growl and lunged at them. He hasn't bite anyone yet, but i prefer not to find out if he will or not. Any suggestion is appreciated ..read more

Hello, We rescued a new pup this past Friday. His name is Lincoln, and he is an approx. 11 week old (20.1 lbs)shepherd/great pyrenees mix. We believe he is an anatolian shepherd mix but we are waiting on the DNA test to arrive still to see what that says. We also have an approx. 8 year old (55lbs) Anatolian/unknown mix (spayed) named Leia, who we have had since she was about 5 1/2 months old. I just want to go over how I am handling this situation, of introducing a new puppy to our home... Seeking thoughts / opinions on our handling of new puppy with an older dog at home ..read more

Training to use a dog ramp for the car.

I am using a ramp to help my 10 year Kelpie to get into the back seat of my Jeep. He is avoiding it like the plague. I have been using treats to get him to go up it, no dice. I have put him in the car and let him exit it, he jumps over the ramp or refuses to go down. How can I get him to use the ramp? Maybe rewards for touching the ramp? Attached to the car or in the house? Or is there another way? The ramp is a 2'x4' piece of 1/2 plywood ..read more

Obsessive Mounting

Sawyer occasionally mounts a dog he’s playing with and I have no issue with this because when I call him out on it he stops. But, even rarer than such; certain dogs make him obsessively mount. He will entirely blow off my callouts resulting in me having to grab him and leash him. He’s not desexed (I disagree with the practice ..read more

Advice on last resort with my dog

I am considering euthanasia with my dog who has serious behavioral issues and nothing seems to work. My family adopted my dog, Boris, 9 years ago. For as long as I can remember he’s had behavioral issues of destroying whatever is in reach, peeing and pooping in the house etc. My dad had him tied to a rope in the living room without water during the day and he would pee and poop everyday. My dads girlfriend was abusive towards him and he was terrified of her. (I didn’t live with Boris for... Advice on last resort with my dog ..read more

I can't housebreak my dog because he won't leave the house!

My wife and I adopted a very good boy 23 days ago from a shelter. He's clearly part German Shepherd, and there is likely some Beagle in him too. He was found on the streets of a nearby town, picked up by animal control and brought to this shelter in mid-January, where he was for less than a month before we adopted him. The shelter estimated that he's about 10 months old. Very little is known about his history, but it seems he came from a family because he is very clingy to his caretakers... Hello, I have never had to reach out to fellow trainers before so I really appreciate any advice. Just to give you some background I have been in the animal industry since I was 16. Been a dog walker, pet sitter, groomer, doggie day camp and boarding worker, worked closely with vets in every field, worked in rescue and with many local rescues as well as fostered and I apprentice under 3 trainers before I started training myself. I have worked as a trainer for companies and independently... Odd behavior, struggling to read ..read more

My puppy, now 11 months old, is VERY active. Loose in the house (with me) or anywhere else) she constantly is in motion. This motion largely consists of her shoving toys into me or focusing on me always wanting to "do" (play training games; go outside; go for a walk). This is a truly wonderful thing, especially in a working dog being trained for sport. Having all what we call "pack drive" (desire to partner/work with a human) is hugely desirable. The only issue is, when she is... Training Off Switch in a dog with Drive ..read more

My dog is a male 2 year old Akita/Malinois mix. Some background: My dog is very insecure and anxious and is also extremely impulsive. He has bitten people in the past and while he has not done so again for some time it is still something I am sure is possible. He is showing improvements in his bite inhibition and we are working to avoid triggers for him. And that is where I am asking for some tips. When upset, tired, anxious or any other negative emotion he will approach people, lean on...
