Covering over graphics for 6 weeks- lorry trailer

Hi guys, would appreciate any fast responses. I have a customer that wants the graphics covered up for 6 weeks and obviously as cheap as possible. Now i’m not sure what to do because i dont want to buy a roll of media (i know you can get “removable”) and on one hand if i used i cheap wrap/air release material costs are high but its easy to remove. If i use a cheap monomeric material costs are cheap but removal could take much longer. i only stock polymeric but how would this remove in 6 weeks? I’m guessing grey back would be better. thanks in advance, not something i have come across before ..read more

Thanks for the reply Rob, Ha Ha!! I hadn’t actually looked that closely at the pics I attached!! Perhaps I should have, but it was really only intended to show that style of old style frame with the cast iron posts. I do most definitely concur with your comments about the snap frames inside that one though!! OMG! What were they thinking!? Anyway, I have more info now on the ones I’m dealing with & they are actually well built units with cast aluminium posts & a lockable sealed aluminium display case which has a smooth white coated steel sheet backing so magnets could be used for paper ..read more

Thanks Pane, I tried the silver of Metamark once, but that looked too light for me. I will try the crystal soon, I like the prices of Metamark and that they also sell a film with a width of 160 cm ..read more

Whilst it was in demand, I used to sell stained glass windows. Some with crystal bevels and glass etch film. It was important to have the etch looking authentic alongside the Ledawork and colour-marbled films. Most of the etch films today just don’t look right, side-by-side. I am going back over 15+ years now, but the one I preferred using was an etch by Mactac, which has since been acquired by Avery. So the ranges may have changed over time. The marble and colour films that I used were not a sign industry brand of vinyl and had a 10+ year life and the Etch was something like 5-7 years which w ..read more

Metamark M7-CR Crystal Etch is my standard frost. I don’t know how close M7-CR Crystal Etch with your mentioned vinyl but it’s very good vinyl. I used since 2006. Do not use the air release version, use only standard M7-CR Crystal Etch ..read more

I was working for more then 20 years with the etched glass film(ST771) of the Italian company Apaspa and the last 2 years with the German company Aslan (E300). These 2 films look similar and for me they look like the most on real etched glass. The disadvantage of the Apa film was that the width of the film is 122 and that gave sometimes some problems with cutting, because the pinch rollers are too close to the edges of the film. The disadvantage of the Aslan film is the water-based adhesive layer, because that causes sometimes white marks in the film. Does someone know an etched glass film tha ..read more

Coincidentally, I had to “return” to a job “today”… The customer had a professional painter and decorator in, who prepped the wall, emulsioned it and then a couple of coats of acrylic paint to give a better surface to bond to. The wall was about 2090mm deep x 15 feet wide. The printed and matt laminated panel/tile was running horizontally and measured 1520mm deep x 15ft wide. It was done in this fashion so there was only one single join in the entire wall. Even that was discreetly hidden. However, when I attempted to install the print the first time. I positioned the 15ft x 1520mm panel, remov ..read more

Hi Myles I agree, the cheap boxes we see here there and everywhere tend to condensate or look pretty drab after a while. Worse still, those that are supposed to update them regularly, never do and you see curled-up sun-bleached paper in them. The traditional free-standing notice/poster holder in your photo with the modern poster clip frames inside to hold the paper notices flat. WTF ??? Joking aside, I know these things serve a purpose and sourced from credible trade suppliers they do look the part, just that I am not a fan of them in general. I can’t say I have paid much attention to how the ..read more

We had similar, and ‘removeable’ vinyl didn’t adhere to the painted wall very well (painted wall, wasn’t a glossy finish, just emulsion, harder to stick too) when we did a test. So we played safe an inform client that we cannot guarantee the vinyl print would be removable without damaging paint and went for normal MD5, client took it off month later and did very small touch ups ..read more

Interpretive Display Unit Graphics Question

Hi All, Just wondering is there a standard or preferable way to produce graphics to go inside these type of units & how are they fixed generally? I know sometimes if they get condensation inside the glass/polycarbonate then it can obstruct visibility, so I was wondering if anyone ever uses reverse print vinyl & fits direct onto the back of the glazing? Otherwise presumably it would need to be print onto a composite panel? I have just heard from someone that they had posters glued onto MDF which had worked ok for several years!! Not sure what sort of poster though. The units I am tasked ..read more
