Greetings, We have come to July 4th, 2024, which is a day that means different things to many different people. While for many it is a day of celebration, relaxation, and historical commemoration, for others, it is also a day of work and reflection of the work that is still needed in the United States. It is important to remember that when the Declaration of Independence was adopted on this day in 1776, there were many who were excluded in the call for freedom, including enslaved Africans and their descendants, women, and the people who were indigenous to this part of the world. However, thi ..read more

Greetings! March 23rd is the annual celebration of World Atheist Day. And because we’re also celebrating Women’s History Month, BN has teamed up with the Skeptic Haven network for a special fundraising episode of Women Atheists Unload. Mark Robinson, Lt. Governor for the state of North Carolina, has been notoriously offensive towards women, and recently stated that he would like to repeal the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote. It is this type of rhetoric from elected officials that has endangered the rights that many of us have worked so hard to achieve and prote ..read more

Greetings, As we stated previously, Black History Month is a time for learning, celebrating, and supporting the important contributions of Black people and communities. And for BN, that means doing our part for the nonreligious among us, both historically and currently. To conclude this very important month, we will be hosting a referendum on an ongoing and VERY important initiative – financial reparations for the descendants of enslaved Africans. Based on recent proposed legislation and this Freethought Today article that was written by Cynthia McDonald, BN’s Chicago affiliate ..read more

Greetings and Happy New Year! On behalf of our leadership team here at Black Nonbelievers, I hope that your 2024 is off to a great start. As for us, we are looking forward to a busy and productive year of advocacy, community building, visibility and support. January 21st marked our 13th year in existence. I had to take a few days to think about what to say about this monumental occasion. When we think about 13 in human years, we see it as a time of growth, change, and challenges. 13 is old enough to have established a foundation, and yet is still maturing. 13 is still learning, still stu ..read more
